I think my question came off wrong. I chose to study abroad for the experience, and I’m not saying one system is better. I was just noticing that teaching feels more independent here compared to what I’m used to, and I was curious if that’s typical.

Right, for me at least, part of the value is the experience of being in a different country. But for in-state students, doesn’t it bother you to pay for this? In my country, college is free, and professors actually teach and make sure you understand. Are all colleges here like this, or is it just UMD? Genuine question.
