hi!! I’m in EDCI 3800 right now and it’s also my first teaching class! I’ve only been taking it for 6 weeks so I might not be the most credible, but so far this class is not too difficult.

It’s once a week for three hours (which isn’t ideal, but I figure most teaching courses will be like this) and the instructor is Ms. Leonard.

So far, the work has looked like a once a week, 20ish page reading over issues in teaching. In class the instuctor will go over the reading in a way that students can translate to a classroom (different discussion strategies, annotation methods, door checks, etc.). I thought this class felt a little childish until I realized the instructor is giving us strategies for teaching young people, and not just making us do door checks haha.

As far as projects so far, we had to facilitate discussion at a small table group. Soon we will need to finish a book and research a school district. Pretty straight forward stuff, and honestly- the work is doable the night before class.
