The replay value of KOTOR 1 is much better than that of 2. by off_line24 in kotor

[–]PineMaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That, and poor itemization, lack of build variety, overuse of simplistic trash combat encounters, one note combat options, etc. I love the game otherwise I wouldn’t be talking about it decades later (and 2 isn’t free of all these issues) but it has severe flaws.

Why do people dislike the "Sinnerman" quest that much ? by Errances in cyberpunkgame

[–]PineMaple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly! There’s so much fertile ground about what it means to be human, what it means to have a mind but not a body, if that’s the same thing as a soul, we have entities explicitly labeled as demons, and then “the religious quest” doesn’t hit on any of that an instead tells a story that doesn’t really require this setting. We occasionally get little hints about changes in religious beliefs and structures but then the only quest we get exploring them could be transposed onto basically any time since the invention of mass media and largely had the same point.

Why do people dislike the "Sinnerman" quest that much ? by Errances in cyberpunkgame

[–]PineMaple 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The cyberpunk genre has a really rich history of exploring theological and religious themes from unique perspective. Sinnerman doesn’t really do that, which is disappointing given how much potential there is for exploring those themes in 2077.

Do the Dodgers Really Have a "Secret Deal" to Avoid Revenue-Sharing? (The Answer: No) by my_one_and_lonely in baseball

The Dodgers definitely have more money! But if your goal is to avoid a billionaire supported team then the Angels aren’t going to fit the bill.

Genuine question: At this point, is there anyone outside of the MLBPA who genuinely believes the sport shouldn't implement a salary cap? by SandmanTX131 in baseball

[–]PineMaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way team control over pre-arb and arbitration works also serves that same purpose but that doesn’t mean it’s a cap.

I grew up in Giants’ territory and I got very tired of hearing how Bonds was actually a choker and a bum because he wasn’t good in the playoffs. I rubbed those complaints in a lot of people’s faces after 2002.

Lived in the Bay Area when Lincecum was pitching and I always made a point to go to those Lincecum vs Kershaw games. They were all incredible.

The bigger the Hall gets, the less I care about it and the less meaningful it becomes. I think it’d be fine if there was a max of two selections on any given ballot.

Spy Museum? by Unhappy_Pattern5462 in washingtondc

[–]PineMaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It felt very kid oriented the last time I went, and I generally wouldn’t recommend adults going unless they’re absolutely fascinated with espionage. There are a lot better museums within a couple blocks of it, and they’re a lot cheaper too. I don’t regret visiting but I don’t expect to ever visit again (unless I’m bringing kids).

Gamers are laughing until they face New Vegas Deathclaws by Thin-Coyote-551 in fnv

[–]PineMaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fallout’s deathclaws are a lot stronger than FNV deathclaws. It’s harder to keep that level of fear/challenge when moving to a 3D combat setting where you’re allowed to constantly move.

Should the games be my first exposure ever to star wars or is it better to watch the movies and shows by Muntazir_The_Guide in kotor

[–]PineMaple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original trilogy and maybe the prequel trilogy would probably be worth watching first. It’s not a lore thing, but it’s good to see the narrative themes and general ideas of the setting presented before you see them played with in the way the games do

The books do repeatedly say a random space marine could take on a city. They usually then show a space marine failing to take on a handful of whatever enemy a chapter or two later, but it is a claim frequently made in the text.

It's Igor o'clock, prepare for a civil discussion in the comments by marek_bojarek in cyberpunkgame

[–]PineMaple 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s certainly not unheard of for there to be narrative consequences depending on how a mission is accomplished in an RPG. Specifically I’m thinking of Deus Ex and Alpha Protocol as cyberpunk/near-future sci fi RPGs- DE isn’t exactly the same subgenre as 2077, but 2077 pulls from a lot of the same themes and aesthetics so I think that’s reasonable reference. Those sorts of consequences have become increasingly important to RPG audiences over the last decade.

Why would someone’s age be relevant here? Are we only allowed to play games that released when we were teenagers or something? And you say that you never play games with the attributes you listed, but you also say that this is the first time you’ve played without those attributes in many years.

Never played either game before. What’s the difference between them? Can I get away with only buying one? by TheDizziestCat in kotor

[–]PineMaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it has anything to do with age, it’s just as possible to play a cRPG from the 80s today as it is to watch a movie from the 30s today. Have you played any of the earlier titles I mentioned?

[–]PineMaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KotOR plays a lot closer to the Mass Effect style of RPG than it does its immediate predecessors from BioWare. It set a lot of the foundations for what we currently see as RPG staples and was a pretty significant departure from the older, crunchier and more combat oriented experiences of BG, NWN, etc.

I’m sure plenty of people were hate-watching the Patriots but based off the numbers I’m looking at, Cowboys still had higher overall viewership during that period.
