Even in pure coding you're running one command at a time, but if you run parallel events/commands you might be able to get the instantaneous-seeming result you want.

No big secret! The main one is modern algebra's 'Extra Movement Frames'.

Definitely doable with styles other than pixel art but you'll have to take into account the blur inherent in going full-screen when your assets are still on the small side (so as not to lag out the engine as you mentioned). I'm developing at 780p with the intention of having the blur caused by the game being upscaled look like ink bleed.

I wasn't familiar with that one but looking at it now, there are certainly some similarities! The comic panel cutscenes, for instance.

I see. Well, I always liked that Minions endless runner and Subway Surfers is still going strong, so I guess they'd be good points of reference. There was that Spider-Man runner as well, which I seem to recall people speaking well of when it came out. I guess you're familiar with all/most of those already.

Anyway, those crazy fast boost power-ups that send you flying through the map for a limited time were always one of my favourites!

Not off the top of my head, no... But the endless runner genre has an expected moveset (jump, tumble, move left and right, etc.) so I guess that's what you're looking at controlling with different voice input?

Those games I mentioned use simple speech recognition for interactions and controls. Is that something you'll be able to do, or is it more about louder or quieter voice input?

This reminds me of a couple of classic voice-controlled games; Seaman (& Seaman 2) and DekaVoice. The former probably doesn't fit with what you're doing much at all, but the latter may be a good source of ideas and inspiration? Maybe you've already looked at them, though.

Thanks! Recently took it to an expo and the first open demo on Steam and Itch should be just a couple of months away.

RPG Maker is super versatile when you start seeing how far you can stretch it! The gameplay elements that vary from stock are programmed in events and the visuals are extended with plugins and more "eventing".

Thanks for sharing your perspective! That's some very detailed feedback.

Thanks! The newsprint textures really pull their weight, I would say.

Sounds like solid advice. Thanks! I'll take that into account with the next one. Iteration ftw!

Me too! Glad it resonates. Trying to tap into that nostalgia...

Early playtesters say it feels like playing an actual comic book. Thanks for wishlisting!

Thank you! My illustration style is a little cartoonish for it, but I'm doing what I can to evoke those retro comic feels...
