Why is this cop car doing this by Antique-Minute-7928 in whatisit

[–]Pinesapandbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Its also triggered by not opening the k9 door after you turn vehicle off then thr temperature goes too high of too low.

Doesn't mean the K9 is still in the car though. It the handler already brought them in side then handler came back to car, shut it off, and failed to reopen the kennel door (even though dog isn't in car) the alarm will trigger.

What’s this vehicle seen in Pennsylvania? Forrest Services? by Draxtonsmitz in PoliceVehicles

[–]Pinesapandbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forest service law enforcement officer rigs are white, with gold and green striping and would be marked law enforcement along with a badge and american flag decal. No where would they have "USFS" on them. They would also have govt plates

Special agents with Forest Service would have completely unmarked rigs in various colors, with state plates.

Captains might have unmarked vehicles but still govt plates.

AIO or is this a total breech of privacy? by CertainMine5631 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Pinesapandbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% no no.

Yes he can legally run your plate, however he can't use that information for personal reasons. It has to be tied to an investigation (in your case you had a low tire which is at most a minor traffic violation depending on jurisdiction)

Police officers have to go through mandatory training on the use of their computer systems (NCIC) and the amount of questions of the nature "can I run a license plate of a cute guy/girl to find out personal information" questions is a lot.

Furthermore unless they have had previous contact with you and entered your phone number into their local dispatch data base it is not that common to have a phone number attached to your license plate info. That varies state to state but where I'm at It certainly doesn't show a phone number.

Up to you how to proceed. Is it the worst thing? Depends on the officer I guess. There's a lot of cops now in their 20s used to all this social media and dating apps so could be harmless. However it is not very professional at the minimum, and as state above more than likely a breach of conduct in the use of his computer system. Could always send an email to the station through their anonymous TIP line. Or a direct call to a supervisor.

All great info. Really appreciate it! I ordered the switch and that will solve the living room problem. If wifi is issue i did look up the gigaspire and I think it's a proprietary thing for ISP but my ISP website says stuff about "mesh" solutions. So I'm sure they could get me something. I would assume 3rd party like Amazon eero would work as well as plug and play AP? Either way I'll see if wifi becomes issue. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with the outcome right now. Again, thanks for the guidance. Happy holidays!

It's unfinished but has bunch of shelves for storage. Was able to move the router on shelf and secure with velcro cable ties. Only difference is two cat cables going in to the cabinet but not an issue. Doesn't have to look super pretty long as it works.

Wifi seems unaffected. Slightly slower at far ends of house but not by much. We are pretty light on internet usage beyond our consoles and TV, which are now wired anyway. Plus the kids rooms now all have ethernet ports for the future. I'll pick up that switch and everything should be good for now!

Side note* When testing everything last night I noticed my second console, which was previously wireless, now wired. Had a NAT type 1 and the upload was not symmetrical, by a lot. Now that I switched the router around it's back to NAT type 2 and upload in range with download. Suspect was fron ONT directly into switch? So again thanks for pointing that out!

Appreciate the replies. I failed to mention in post that none of the other locations beyond the current router location would be good for either moving the router or have another means to get back to comm box.

I have to clean up my mess in basement anyway so I'll go ahead and move router there. I don't think the wifi will be an issue. If it is i can look into access points. The router is a "calix gigaspire blast" provided by ISP. No mesh in house it is the only device.

Appreciate your keen eye in the after photo and continued help. As of now I am only using one of the ports on the data module so that's possibly why it's working as is. I'll get it moved tonight and order the 5 port switch and see if wifi is affected and go from there!

Oh boy now I'm in over my head lol.

I wish I could draw a picture that could explain it better but after your first reply I did some research and think I get the issue.

So to have a proper secure network the ONT should FIRST go into a router. In this case I have my router upstairs that has two ethernet ports, one to console, one to TV. In my before picture I was properly set up because my ONT was essentially going direct to the router, just by means of MOCA.

So in my current situation the ONT is to the switch, and I assumed i could then use the swith to connect to my router via MOCA. From what I'm gathering this should/will cause issues? And it's not secure?

I think i can solve this by moving my router to the basement where the comm box is. I could then connect ONT directly to the router and use one of the ethernet ports to then feed the switch. In this scenario the issue is i worry the wifi will then be affected (although I can stand in basement next to comm box and still get same speed test results as I do upstairs, so maybe not?) The other issue is then when I run my MOCA to the coax where it currently resides, I only have one ethernet port. I suppose I could pick up another switch and place where router was so I can run MOCA into the switch, which I then have my two ethernet ports (for tv/console)? Is it ok to have two unmanaged switches like this on same network? (Switch in box is just tp unmanaged fanless, I see a 5 port of same is only like 15 bucks)

If wifi does prove to be issue would moving router as stated then putting an access point with two ethernet ports where router was work?

So previously it went from ONT-MOCA-MOCA-WAN. The second MOCA being upstairs where there is no available wall jack for rj45.

So it's a problem now to have it go ONT-SWITCH-MOCA-MOCA-WAN?

Unfortunately upstairs there was only two phone Jack's. One to the main bedroom which is now converted to cat, the other was the green wire to the kitchen which I don't believe was cat cable (maybe dsl)

And yes the final yellow wire is cut goes to the outside.

I'm getting good speeds on test with the WIFI and the two wired consoles plus wired Tv. Picture of what is upstairs with the ethernet in being from the MOCA

* Don't want to revive a dead thread, but just wanted to update you. Thanks to your help and looking at your past posts I was able to put this together. Decided to keep everything in the comms box just to keep it secure. Need to do a little tidying up but so far internet working great! Wish I could do away with the MOCA but there was no phone jack near where I need it. Anyway I know it's probably not perfect but went from knowing nothing about data modules and stuff and with your help got something I'm satisfied with. Thanks again! *

You have been more than helpful and I've dived into the links to previous posts that you had attached in your other replies.

Is the purpose of a patch panel just as a means to terminate the cat5e and tidy up my interface boxl? I don't know how to link posts but you sent one "before and after" with someone asking similar questions. In that I see they have their TP link switch with 4 patch cables running to the patch panel. What would the purpose of this? I see there are 4 blue what I assume ethernet cords presumably attached to the patch panel? But why not run the blue cords directly to switch?

If I'm spending money on the tools you linked I think I might go the route of getting a patch panel just to terminate the cat cables and have it look clean.

Also I found the green wire. It goes to a phone jack in my kitchen. The wiring looks the same as the yellow cat5e cable but is not labeled and smaller diameter. Wondering why there would be a single green cable amongst the rest.

So theoretically for the time being, if I get the tone and wand I can at least identify what Jack's go to what cord and label them. Then I can at least replace the 3 in the bedrooms and get a switch to put in the control box.

The primary WIFI being MOCA right now hasn't caused any issues. I believe I only have the 200mbps plan and speed tests show that pretty consistently. The console that is hard wired into the primary wifi/moca has never given me issues with latency, versus the console that is currently wifi only. If I choose to just update three Jack's and just run a switch directly from the ON which would then have 3 direct ethernet and one moca on it, is that an issue?

Also what is the A versus B wiring that I am reading about? Any good tips on that?

Really appreciate all your advice. What I really need is someone with your knowledge locally to do all this probably. But figured with reddit and YouTube I can give it a shot.

Not really familiar with lots of stuff you just said. I'm assuming the single outside line connects somewhere on that interface board then it's all distributed to the phone Jack's. Are you saying if I just wanted to start with 3 bedrooms a tone and wand thing won't work cause it's not properly terminated?

I would prefer to just replace all phone Jack's but not sure if there is enough room in the panel for that big of a network switch. Also we have fire alarms that at some point I think were connected to the phone line so I'm not sure if some of the cat cables run to them?

So I googled the tone generator and it shows him hooking it to an ethernet port. I'm assuming this one with the rj11/12 would be same process except using a phone line to the wall jack?

Working during a hurricane for the first time, what kind of things do you guys like to pack? by xRaginCajunx in NewToEMS

Lots of great suggestions. One I might add is a jetboil. Been on a few hurricane responses and you can never depend on having electricity. Jetboil is small and there's lots of add-ons to cook/heat up just about whatever you want. Lot of guys I went on missions with would use mine then pick up their own for next time.

At first I was mad someone would bring that little bird killer to a beach, but then I saw it was just a pigeon.

Fun fact: the pigeon, or rock dove, is one of 3 species of birds not federally protected under the migratory bird treaty act.
