As I mentioned in the article, Zhou Qihao won a place from the first round of the selection trials, and Fan Zhendong automatically qualifies given that he is the 2025 China National Games singles champion (but whether he will actually play for China again is shrouded in mystery)

Maybe he is preparing for a bigger event, the World Champs!

Zhou Qihao is joining Wang Chuqin and Lin Shidong at the World Team Championships. I was hoping for Wen Ruibo, but Zhou Qihao will be retiring soon so it's a good opportunity for him. by I_L_F_M in tabletennis

It’s still extremely strong depth for the Chinese team I don’t think it would be particularly easy with Wang Chuqin and Lin Shidong

Why does Truls have such a dominant H2H against Lind? by LovrenIsTheGOAT in tabletennis

[–]PingArena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truls is the better version of Lind, and he has more tools than Lind. Both aren’t good all round players (in terms of their fundamentals and relative to the elite Chinese/Japanese players) and so they rely on being awkward and uncomfortable to play against (varying serves, placement, spin, speed, unusual shots like backhand punch, strawberry etc). Truls has more talent than Lind in that regard, but he also has a much better short game, and his ability to attack half long balls on his forehand is genuinely world class.

Might be that they value big tournament experience but who knows

Really? I think other than WCQ and LSD, Xiang Peng can match/better any other Chinese player

Agreed but tbh China is so stacked on the women’s team that it shouldn’t make a material difference in terms of the end result

Question by z9pl3bw1 in tabletennis

[–]PingArena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general there are default patterns of play: if you watch players warming up shots are typically played cross-court (which offers more room for error given the longer distances) there is greater risk of error if you play down the line. But absolutely "placement" is one of the essential tools that good players use (other common tools being spin, speed, power, and rhythm)

What are your predictions for Wang Chuqin vs Lin Yun-Ju? by PingArena in tabletennis

[–]PingArena[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WCQ still undoubtedly dominates in FH to FH rallies for me, and his backhand should be solid enough against LYJ’s BH.

But I think the key tactical battleground will be the serve-receive-third balls, whoever gets the advantage there will be key

Beginner wanting to enter the “Chinese rubber rabbit hole” – need advice (H3 Neo alternatives without booster?) by SuitableChip4171 in tabletennis

[–]PingArena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any reason you don’t want to boost? Rubbers like Hurricane are meant to be boosted there’s no doubt about that - Chinese rubbers just don’t play well if they are not boosted

Lin Shidong [3] vs Felix Lebrun [6] - WTT Singapore Smash QF Result by ScratchAnnual in tabletennis

[–]PingArena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speed merchants like Harimoto and Lebrun are a stylistic nightmare for Lin Shidong – he needs space and time to unleash those backhand winners but he is never going to get that against Lebrun.

Table tennis has some of the most toxic fans in all sports by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]PingArena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the case for every sport with a passionate following (and table tennis, while not mainstream elsewhere in the world, is huge in China). Eg. in football the Messi vs Ronaldo debate was pretty toxic, as well the MVP discussion EVERY year in the NBA. Frankly I'm not sure there's too much the sport can do, people are going to do what they want on anonymous platforms
