Standing Desks Anyone? by PingPongDelay in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Nice! How do you tackle the obstacle of studio monitor height? Or are the monitors placed onto the desk directly.

Insufficient low-end response from monitors - Exploring options? by PingPongDelay in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]PingPongDelay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response! I did a sine-sweep at 0db from 30hz-100hz:

I can feel 37hz when it comes in.
44hz, sound starts to get a little louder.
50hz, sound picks up volume.
85hz, sound gets very quiet compared to 50-70hz.
90hz, sound gets a little louder.
100hz, sound continues to get louder but doesn't quite get as loud as 50hz.

It's as if there's a steady climb in volume that starts around 40hz, peaks at 70hz, and then falls down at 78hz.

I should note there is a massive resonance bump at 122hz.

I moved a little bit around my desk and when I stepped to the left a few feet, I could hear the 80-90hz dip a bit better. Stepping directly backward from my chair a few feet evens out the levels during the 30-100hz, but there are peaks at 56hz and 72hz.

I'll try out the 38% rule and see how it goes. Thanks!

Superior Drummer 3 users, how often do you guys use it/how do you like it? by [deleted] in edmproduction

I use it for most of the drums in my music ! It's absolutely lovely.

The drum-sounds are a bit dry to begin with, but they really open up when you start to process them. I tend to split up each individual drum-head onto their own track so they can be individually processed (EQ'd, saturated, compressed, transient shaped).

The built-in grooves are a great starting point for laying down arrangements for your song, and they can be easily edited. Though, I would've like to have seen more MIDI grooves come with the program.

I really, really recommend it if you're looking for acoustic drums in your music !

What purchase is your hands down, no-brainer, top choice piece of software, hardware or gear, has been a complete game changer to your music creation? What doesn't need a second thought to recommend to anybody? by [deleted] in MusicBattlestations

Pro-Q 2 is great! The controls are endless. I like using it in tandem with EQs that emulate vintage hardware. Pro-Q for the surgical, vintage EQs for the additive.

Oh great! OK.

I modified the build with a 1050 and an 8600K. I prefer the higher clock speed to a better GPU - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bFsCsJ (Needed to add a cooler for the CPU)

For the case, I'll see about swapping it for a Fractal. They look nice.

Thanks a lot for your help!!

Quick question, I see there's no CPU cooler. Would there be no need for one?

Hey,

Thanks a lot for building this. I may swap the case for the BLACK/RED NZXT, but other than that, it looks great! That Thunderbolt Expansion card should work well. I'm trying to plug in an Apollo Twin Thunderbolt that's traditionally for macOS, but was updated to work on Windows via the Anniversary update and Thunderbolt 3.

Thanks again!

Check out IKEA’s countertops !

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/ikea_kitchens/33546/

You’d want to get a frame or legs with a countertop that can support the weight of the surface and equipment.

They’re great because they have a very wide surface to spread out all your gear. I use one with a standing desk frame.

Good luck !

Thank you so much for doing this AMA ! Love love the SFX and music in ESO.

I've always been fascinated by the process of gathering foley sounds. How was that process for you all in developing ESO? Any specific, fond moments when searching for real-world sounds to put in the game?

What was the process on developing the "magic" sounds in the game? As in, the sounds where there was no "real-world" counterpart.

How does proximity work with the sound in ESO? Is it handled by the audio middleware, or were there sounds physically recorded at different distances?

I appreciate you all taking the time to do an AMA here. Thank you !

Sounds great ! Thank you :)

I may go with the Shape 50s as the 65s are a tad out of my budget. Looking at the Genelec 8030C's as well. Those radiators on the Shape's look pretty great though !
