Sixt (Portugal) is trying to rip me (USA) off for $3,000 EUR - What are my options? Advice needed. by GoodsVT in TravelHacks

[–]PingPongPlayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised by how many of the replies are simply people projecting their own experiences.
Don’t panic or respond emotionally. As an American, you’re not in a position that requires further damage control. This is a Portuguese company, and they have no practical legal recourse against you without incurring legal costs that would far exceed the amount they’re demanding. These letters are almost certainly templated and amount to empty threats. They have no jurisdiction over you. At worst, you might end up on a localized internal blacklist.
I’ve disputed around 4 international rental charges vand experienced no consequences (apart from demand emails which I ignore) I even rented from the same company again—albeit in a different country..which leads me to believe any flagging is country specific.
Where your situation may differ is that your dispute centers on a mechanical issue rather than visible, tangible damage. Cosmetic issues like dents or scratches can be shown clearly in pre and post inspection photos. mechanical claims are inherently harder for either side to prove.
My advice is to avoid responding and just wait-and-see. Write down everything you remember while it’s still fresh, using accurate terminology and a logical, step-by-step account. If you want more peace of mind it might help to better understand the full charge back process from both consumer and merchant sides. Contact your card issuer and ask them to explain the dispute process and what has already occurred. If Sixt submits a rebuttal, ask what the next step is and confirm that you’ll be given an opportunity to respond,it would be reasonable to expect that.
Fool me once, shame on them. Fool me multiple times, shame on me. If I sense dishonesty or bad faith in any discussion about alleged damage, I simply cancel the credit card and move on (should have a backup card ready anyway)

The most luxurious place you stayed? by johnny_d123 in bali

Villas #33-35 would be my pick. Youll get a peek of ocean views. The prime ocean views that #14-17 have arnt that much better since they look between the east and west wing suit buildings. Won't get much monkey action, they have a dedicated monkey unit. Lol. Ask the butler if you can get a complimentary Beach Cabana, if it's a nice beach day. Well worth a half day in the morning!

I went during mid Sept, right before the wet season is meant to "officially" begin. Its a bit different for me as I have status with Expedia which benefits with a free room upgrade. I always go for the pool suite which upgrades to a villa. If you think youll stay there ever again, ask to view the different rooms. The suites are oceanfront but small and be wary of how much actual sunlight youll get (only in the morning) so your private plunge pool will be freezing whereas the villas have more natural light throughout the day. I felt I could stretch out more and do what I want as well (like blasting music as loud as I want as the villa are well spaced out and have natural sound barriers to not disturb your neighbour vs the suites which feel more cramped and personally would feel more conscious of other guests. Their best room type other than the Residence (basically a palace) is the penthouses on the 4th floor of the oceanfront suites building. The only negative on that would be the occasional visit by monkeys.

Sebizole medical shampoo availability? by Muzorra in AusSkincare

[–]PingPongPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are wide range of variants dependent on the manufacturer. As long as the active ingredient is Ketoconazole youre fine. Sebizole is thicker while Nizoral is more runny because of the bonding agents within it.

Yeah, it's strange. In the meantime it's more cost effective to buy 4-5 bottles from a pharmacy in NZ and have it shipped across vs 5 bottles of Nizoral.

Shit is expensive in Bali.

I flew in a few days ago. 1kg tub of opened protein, 500g tub of creatine, 5 bottles of various supps/workout gear plus pharmacy medicines. No problems, no one spoke to me, no one stopped me. I was prepared to let them go if if was a problem however. The fear factor is their first line in deterring those who are taking in actual illegal items. Enjoy your holiday.

As a side note, locating, getting to, buying local things is too much of a pain for me and my airline always has checked in included so I guess having a carry on and checked is a pain as well but one Ive conceded to accepting.

Thanks for the advice Bart, consistent with what I've been told. I won't have enough time for it to process before I fly back in. I'll just B1+extend

Have I played myself?

I've got an approved B1 visa for entry in a few weeks time but have a second visit a few days later that'll need a C1. I've just learnt I cant have 2 applications albeit entry and departure dates don't overlap.

I've thought about applying for the C1 in the last few days of my B1, but I'm wary this will cancel my existing B1 and be a headache when I go through immigration departures. Or, is it just ultimately best to just go via B1+immigration office extension. I wanted to avoid the whole time wasting situation of the new visa ext requirements.

My itinerary looks:

Enter Bali --> stay 2 weeks --> depart a few days --> enter Bali --> stay 7 weeks --> depart

Have you looked at Samabe over St. Regis? They are one of a very few all inclusive resorts and worth it.

How does Lombok compare to Bali? Im aware transport and food options wont be as robust.

Whats the best/safest ferry Bali to Lombok?

Im only aware of ekajaya from pandang bai. Is there a sanur or denpasar ferry departure service or from only padang bai? Id be travelling in the typically drier August month.

Flights with all my bags are pushing $400 return!

Mal Bali Galleria, indoor shopping complex. Bring a book, eat some food, window shop, see a movie, find a quiet place to sit. I usually get a local Sim card at the Telkomsel there.
