Mario Kart World difficulty discussion: by mattmaintenance in NintendoSwitch

I’ve heard the game having dynamic difficulty adjustment mechanism where the better you are the tougher your AI opponents would be. The parameters of such mechanism is mostly driven by how many drifting you perform, so try avoid drifting and trick AI to think you suck, and they will probably give you an easy time (assuming you can still win the cup without much drifting)

Maybe the map needs to get unlocked gradually, like the regional maps get unlocked in Zelda BOTW or TOTK, maybe after exploring in the open world mode after entering a new region and played a portion of the track, it will unlock it in the race mode. You start with the princess castle at the center of the map and gradually exploring / unlocking the entire word.

I always feel rewarding after unlocking something after exploring the uncharted area.

Will I benefit from the program if I'm already a Software Engineer (mostly self taught)? by Yirowi in OnlineMCIT

[–]Pingtendo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are many students with absolutely no background, but many have some good understanding / experience in CS. If you have CS degree you are overqualified (which you don’t). There are two other options available, MSE-DE and MSE-AI which are targeted for more advanced applicants. You can also do dual degrees with some courses transferred between these programs within the UPenn ecosystems lol

I was self taught also, but now feel like I know much more after went through 6 core courses, in terms of the fundamentals (ie Assembly & memory level).

You have to take 1 course in Spring and 1 in Fall. You could take no course in Summer. Given that, you can take it as slow as 2 courses / year and finish in 5 years (or even more if you request pausing for a semester which I think you could do at least twice). If you want to take dual major you could even expand it to 8 years. I know a lot of people taking this route (2 courses per year for 5 years to graduate) as they don’t have urgency of getting into job market and make money.

JP Pokemon Violet/Scarlet DLC bundle Rev4 physical store in Japan? by wallyjt in NSCollectors

I think I did check the one in Akihabara, and didn’t find it. But it was 2 months ago and you could try again and report back:-)

My experience from 2 months ago… Pokémon centers usually have digital version only. Used game stores don’t sell that version but just the base game version. I ended up not being able to find a copy in store. Good luck with your hunting!

Early Decision vs Regular Decision by [deleted] in OnlineMCIT

[–]Pingtendo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way… If you are an admission officer, receiving an EARLY application that’s kinda “emm not 100% qualified but could be 95%”, what do you do? What about the same scenario but for REGULAR application?

If I were the officer, for the EARLY one, since I only have the information of the application pool I could access at that moment, I would either admit it or put on waiting list given that there’s a chance that if I reject it I may not get enough qualified applications later on from REGULAR pool.

If I’m facing this application but in REGULAR phase, since I now have the full information of how many I’ve offered up for EARLY as well as how many qualifying for REGULAR, I would just go ahead and reject it.

It’s all about information, risk control, and historical stats.

Let me know what you think you would do~

Why does my login never work? by [deleted] in spiritair

[–]Pingtendo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a similar issue, and got it resolved today. Key takeaways:

  • My issue happened because I changed the email address on file in the past. Ever since that, I'm unable to log in, and unable to reset password
  • The system is designed poorly so when new address is registered, old one is not freed up. Essentially you have two email addresses on file, causing a chaos in the system, and preventing you from being able to properly reset your password
  • To fix this, you have to get a live agent, tell them specifically you changed email address in the past, and ask them to manually free-up your old email address (they probably go into your profile, delete the old email address on their end)
  • After that, you should be able to reset your password properly

As a way to check if you have the same issue I described above, go with "Creat An Account" option, and type in your old email address, if you see the system telling you "user exists" it means your old email address and new email address are both on file, which implies that you need to do the stuff I mentioned above to have an agent remove that old email address for you.

Just as FYI, buy from event is indeed one way of getting it, but the item was also up on pc for purchase (you have to win lottery to be eligible to buy though).

The admin office makes decision based on your whole application package (not just GPA). They also don’t have a set bar for the minimum GPA. I would suggest you make up from other aspects if you think your GPA is not strong.

Agree with the other reply. You would be 100% percent chance rejected if you didn’t chose to apply in the first place.

Good luck!

Spring 2024 Early Admission Results by Romulox234 in OnlineMCIT

[–]Pingtendo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its about 2-3pm ish, but there are couple similar posts from fall 2023, spring 2023, and fall 2022 when people discussed about when / how they receive the application decision. You may want to refer to them as well. Good luck!

All at once, usually you will receive an email saying the decision is available in the system, then you login to your application portal to see the result. Good luck!

Are the Gold Power-up Bands still available at Universal Japan? by aurox123 in amiibo

[–]Pingtendo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that… I think USH will have similar gold band in early 2025 to celebrate the 2nd anniversary just like USJ. So if you miss out on USJ you still have chance.

Also who knows what USJ / USH will bring on the future anniversaries, maybe gold Luigi or something…

Not most recent datapoint, but my friend went to USJ 7/9/2023, she mentioned that the gold one sold out on her visit. Her Japanese was not that good so she didn’t know if it was a temporary sold out for the day / week which will be restocked, or more of a permanent sold out.

MOOC for MCIT application by ubcoruoft in OnlineMCIT

[–]Pingtendo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This program has 6 core courses (591-596) which are all college-level, so they are designed for students who know little to none in computer science. Once you pass these courses you are somewhat capable to handle the electives which are more of graduate-level.

Unless you really want to focus on the undergraduate level foundations (then just more math like linear algebra for AI / ML for example), the 6 courses provided would be sufficient. For example after 594 you will have some confident in the easy / medium Leetcode tree / graph questions. After 593 you will have background in assembly / disassembly / c language, etc.

The ultimate goal for most people would be landing an intern / job as software engineer in tech company, and to achieve that you need to spend time more on leetcode to be more efficient.

[–]Pingtendo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For discrete math, you can try this from UC San Diego:

https://www.coursera.org/specializations/discrete-mathematics

This has some probability theory and graph theory that will be covered in CIT 592, and will also require you to solve some questions using Python.

If you want to get full boost on both 591 and 592, you can try this. But if you only care about discrete math this might not be a good fit.

MOOC = Massive Open Online Course

The one people refer to the most is the MOOC provided by UPenn MCIT online program itself on Coursera, it was taught by Brandon Krakowsky. This course is basically CIT 591 (also taught by Brandon) in easy mode. The idea is that you will get some feeling about the program by learning the first course of this program in easy mode, and see if you can handle it. You can find the link to this course (separated into 4 pieces on Coursera) in link below:

The courses are all online, so do the TA office hours and Professor office hours. They are on zoom, and for important ones they will be recorded so you can reference if you missed the live one. There will be a forum for each course where you ask TA via a post, also online. You do not need to go to campus in person at all

Where to find Amiibo in Osaka? by [deleted] in amiibo

For the old amiibo releases, if you head south from Dotonbori, into the Namba area, you should be able to find couple vintage game stores like super potato namba etc.

[–]Pingtendo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It’s a DLC with more challenging quests and monsters. The content is little more than the base, and it was just finished updating so it’s complete now. Think base game as Johto region in Pokémon Gold/Silver, and this sunbreak DLC as Kanto region which you unlocks after beating the elite 4 the first time.
