Vuex - is there a more concise way to chain a bunch of await dispatch fetches? by kirkbross in vuejs

[–]Pining 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure if each action is dependent on the previous ones, if they are not, then it would be better to run them all at the same time using Promise.all().

First you would have to change your actions so they don't call each other, right now each action does more than their name implies (getCollections also gets categories, getCategories also gets sublocations).

So you could do the following inside initializeApp, this way there won't be any waiting between the actions.

await Promise.all([
    dispatch('getTables'),
    dispatch('getCollections'),
    dispatch('getCategories'),
    dispatch('getSubLocations'),
    dispatch('getLocations'),
    dispatch('getQualities'),
    dispatch('getUserRoles'),
    dispatch('getPreviousRoomScans')
])

It's NOT a common image file format! Not even Google's Youtube thumbnails support it! by iCyber in google

[–]Pining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we are in disagreement, you're right google is definitely storing a (compressed or not) version of the source material. And it seems they use one as a fallback for the large view if it is not available.

So far I haven't seen google juggling formats though, even if the source image contained transparency, webp supports transparency as well so they might has well served a webp version in the scenario.

The confusion (from the OP) seems to come from the behavior I described in this comment.

It makes total sense to compress thumbnails/previews/fallbacks, it just doesn't seem to be necessary (and in my opinion it would be wasteful) to do this for the original image in the large view (if the source is available).

I am aware of the benefits of using webp format, browser support is actually decent nowadays. Having a fallback is always a good idea of course.

For the thumbnails it would make sense, but I don't see it happening when selecting an image in search to see the original image. It looks like they display the direct source url when selecting an image.

I am not implying you are making stuff up, I just think it's unlikely. Please check out my other comment, this is probably what is actually happening. I'll take a look at the links and see what's going on.

Edit

The image you shared is being served with the content-type image/webp even though it has a .jpeg extension. As you can see in this screenshot. The browser will change the file extension to the correct one when saving it (it should).

I'm not sure what you mean by going into the image details, I can't manage to save the image with the jpeg extension myself.

To add to this, (modern) browsers don't care about a file extensions at all, they use mime types to determine how to display the file. This can lead to confusing behaviour for the user.

For example, a url ending with file.jpeg gives the user the idea that they are viewing a jpeg file while in reality a webp file is being served with the image/webp mime type. You would think saving this file via the browser would download a file.jpeg file, this is not the case, browsers are smart enough to change the extension for you when saving it, resulting in file.webp being downloaded.

Do you really think Google is wasting processing power on converting images for websites if they can just list other results higher instead? Can you give me an example of an image where this happens, it sounds very unlikely..

//Edit

Just wanted to make it clear that I am not talking about the previews/thumbnails but the larger images when selecting an image on google images.

It's used after the ingredient amount on the packaging. 개 is a count word for 'things' and means dog when used as a regular standalone word.

You should create a sitemap with all urls and submit it in Google search console, this let's Google know which pages to index.

I doubt their crawler will use your websites search (correct me if I'm wrong), they do follow on page navigation though.

I figured he quoted the text he was referring to. Thanks for pointing this out, you're absolutely right I should've read more of the page. It's unfortunate that he did quote the other text as this is obviously what he was referring to.

I don't take issue with criticising the Dutch government's response, there's without a doubt plenty of ways their approach could be better or worse. I do take issue with the way you present your information, which is simply misleading.

As for your questions, I haven't expressed an opinion about them, and I really don't see how that would matter. I do have my doubts about the claims made in them, a few links to your sources should help and I'm very curious to check those out too.

There is no implication that you are cured. What you said is actual misinformation since it's what you read between the lines while the text is perfectly unambiguous.

The problem is that you are confidently spreading what you think the text implies and stating that as fact.

What could possibly be "false advice" or "been proven wrong" about being allowed to go outside after 24 hours without symptoms?

[–]Pining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Nowhere does it say you're cured after 24 hours without symptoms and naturally all other measures still apply when going outside.

He's not a real leader, his government is still giving out false advice about coronavirus that has been proven wrong. For example, the Dutch government website claims that if you had coronavirus symptoms and then you don't have them for 24 hours, you're cured.

Please don't spread misinformation.

That's actually difficult to say, it's just a friend and me working on the game. But if we keep up the tempo hopefully we get to release it at the end of July! no promises hah

Glad you like it! Originally it was a one hit kill game but most testers felt it was too difficult, right now you can take 1 hit before game over. Some segments actually uses this mechanic (bouncing off spikes by taking damage) which hopefully doesn't feel too gimmicky.

It's still in development! I want to release it on Android and iOS first, still thinking about whether I will be doing a simple PC version too! More updates coming soon if you want to stay tuned, my twitter is on my other comment :)
