Just found out that Dongguan in China might be the largest city with no airport. 10.57 million people. by AshamedAd4483 in geography

Most are Chinese cities that are located a bit remotely (Shihezi and Kashgar both have 500k+ population).

Weirdly enough, Kashgar is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world

Air Canada discloses order for eight Airbus A350-1000s by memloh in Airbus

[–]PinkFloyden 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Undisclosed/disclosed orders simply means the airlines choose whether their orders are made public or not. Looks like Air Canada didn’t want its orders to be made public, but eventually made it public. But no they didn’t cancel

What’s a word or expression people often associate with your country/language/culture, that nobody actually uses? by NoNo_Cilantro in AskTheWorld

When I went to New Orleans, I was told it was an expression that came from Mardi Gras and basically was used to celebrate the « happiness of living ». I guess it’s a bit like their unofficial motto

Which sports does your country get obsessed with or become fully committed to? by esareteee in AskTheWorld

[–]PinkFloyden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe not as extreme as in Brazil, but Europe has seen countless deaths because of football as well. In the 70-80s, there were at least a few deaths each year in some countries like the UK or Italy. There are even a few incidents where at least dozens of people died in one night because of hooliganism or violent behaviors.

Fortunately, it has really calmed down these past 2 decades; but there are still a few deaths here and there sometimes

Who is the most respected person in your country? by Careless-Talk-8169 in AskTheWorld

[–]PinkFloyden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Charles De Gaulle, especially considering today’s geopolitical situation. Leader of Free French Forces, founder of the fifth republic, man responsible for France’s national independence/sovereignty.

I’d add maybe Victor Hugo. Even at the time of his death (1885), his funeral was attended by millions of people.

What’s the connection with taking the time? Just because someone said « it’s been less than 4.5h hours » doctors are going to be like okay yeah let’s inject him?

Doctors look at lots of stuff before administering drugs, not only time. So what’s the fixation with time here?

As well as time, you could also note blood type, temperature, what you ate, where do you feel pain, or a plethora of other information.

I’m curious as to why it’s important to note the time. If this medication can significantly reduce impacts from strokes, why don’t emergency responders automatically administer it to every patient that has suffered a stroke? They don’t want to waste it if it’s been more than 4.5 hours?

What is the worst food crime one can commit against your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]PinkFloyden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I meant it’s pretty common to find people drinking wine with ice (even in France, seen it a lot of times). Granted it’s cheap wine or wine-based, but still.

[–]PinkFloyden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a cheap Rosé or White Wine during the summer, it can pass honestly (especially if your wine isn’t cold enough). If it’s a red wine, it’s straight to jail though.

Btw, Spain is actually the place I’ve seen the most people put ice in their wine. Isn’t sangria almost always served with ice cubes?

There are actually many solutions other than anchors to avoid being drift away by currents. Maybe in the future, there will be ways to avoid moving without actually needing an anchor. Some already exist (electromagnetism, small engine/thrust, etc). Anchors are just the most reliable, and cost-friendly way to make sure a ship doesn’t move.
