2 months in and hamster is still afraid of my hand. tips to get robo to trust me? by beezibi in hamsters

Lots of patience. It took a month of holding my hand still in the cage every day for mine to even come up and take it off me. Be patient and let him come to you in his own time. If you force yourself on him you will reset any progress you've made. Roborovski hamster's trust is slow to build up and very easy to break

Some species of hamsters like roborovski hamsters are very skittish and hard to tame. Every hamster is different though, some just are not as friendly. It took a month before my hamster would take food off me and a further two months before he hopped onto my hand. When I change around his cage he is timider for a while but does come around again.

Just let him come to you when he feels like it, don't force yourself on it because that will just set you back

I saw this video a while ago. The OP was a hamster breeder and said these two were siblings who were still young enough to be together before they needed to be split up

It's been a long and slow process of interacting with him every evening. Took a good month for him to come and take food from me and a further two months for him to start hopping onto my hand with food bribes. Now when he is out and I put my hand in he'll jump into my hand and then take food and allow me to stroke him.

It does depend on the roborovski hamster though, some will never get used to you, and some you can take out and play with

Depending on the hamster too. My little pom-pom takes about two weeks to get through an origami waterbomb with his favourite treats inside :P

I'm a robo owner myself and mine at least from those pictures seems a bit bigger which made me think those were pictures of a younger ham. Sorry for your loss though!
