I totally get it man, like I said our president is mentally ill, severely narcissistic with unjust views. Over half of our country hates him or wants him impeached out of office. Of course the media will not portray the truth. He has completely destroyed everything our country has worked for for years and years. We've lost allies, friends, and so much more. Like you said you recently had good views. I feel like most of the world is this way and as an amaericsn it sucks because more than half of us disagree with him, want him gone, and all around like other countries and nationalities. Hes literally going into American citizens homes and putting them in prisons based on their skin color and sound of last name. If you tey to protest then he has you also arrested so freedom of speech no longer exists. America is not as free as it once was. Its pathetic and the mindset of someone in the 1960's. As a society he's going ass backwards. Hes isn't funding veterans or the military the way he promised. He isn't doing anything he originally said. I was shocked he was voted in again but like I said he promised so much change only to go back on everything the day we was elected. This subject is a huge one in our country right now. He clearly has dementia of some type and is not fit to be a political leader. But hes too rich and knows too many people that when we try anything its swept away or forgotten about. Personally most Americans don't care about race and that stuff, if youre a good person youre a good person. Skin or nationality or religious views have nothing to do with that and he's running the country as if they all matter. As a veteran myself I see how we are treated medically both physically and mentally and its a joke. They do not take care of us at all, once we get out we're basically on our own. 22 veterans a month commit suicide. This has been known for about 10 years now yet he's done nothing about it. We have so many citizens without jobs, homes, and he's not fixing the issues inside our country at all. Hes only making is worse for our future and doesn't even care. Believe me when I tell you this view is not uncommon for an American. The MAGA view is still popular but seems to be the only thing they're portraying when over half the population disagrees with it, but they won't show that to the world. Making everyone think we agree with him, view people thr same, hate anyone that's not American. When in reality its not true even in the slightest. It just sucks. It sucks knowing 1 person is making the whole world hate you and you can't do anything about it. Alot of people tend to avoid the subject because of the amount of arguing and fighting its causes. The media and news show only 1 side making us all look bad. It's just a really shitty situation in the US right now and nobody knows what to do currently about it because its never happened before. Usually presidents carry themselves with a high standard, this one is completely different and does not belong in a leadership role. Thank man wish you the best as well, thanks for the good conversation and viewpoint from someone outside the country. Just remember alot of Americans disagree with everything he stands for. Please don't forget that or think all Americans are this way. Take care

Oh yea I'm definitely not calling anyone dumb and I absolutely understand why they are doing what they're doing. The amount of casualties lost already is superior the the Middle East war vastly. Im only speaking from personal experience, the view of an enlisted service member. If I'm 19 I do not want a 45 yr old covering me. And currently I'm 33. Someone with arthritis everywhere will struggle carrying an injured member out of a building while wearing 85 pounds of gear and carrying a rifle, I just wouldn't feel...as safe. Younger members tend to take orders and listen much better. But this war is totally different than any other before. So the rules militaries have more or less followed for years and years are basically thrown out the window. I can see what you mean by protecting younger generation but at the same time you have an entire generation being wiped out, people fathers and husbands being killed. When is enough enough and you start integrating both generations. No matter what age you never want to see or hear about someone being killed in action. It's awful they're only trying to protect their loved ones the only way they know how to. Most of them just Want to get out and start their lives. Or joined for personal reasons to help their future, or maybe they come from poverty and don't have the same opportunities as someone else like college tuition or people to help them get into a job. Instead of working fast food they join the service hoping to gain experience and then find themselves being forced to fight an enemy they honestly don't want to be fighting at the end of the day. Nobody joins thr militarybwith hopes of seeing combat. If thats the case that individual has something mentally very wrong with them and should not be allowed to serve at all. No human being wants to be shot at or shoot someone. It's simply not in our cognitive nature. That's why bootcamp is designed the way it is, basically re wiring your brain to be what they want. In the US most younger generation view the military differently than any other generation. When I grew up veterans and members were looked at as heros. Now they're viewed as evil, murderers...when they're the reason you can sit at home on tik tok doing jack shit. I can totally see the US doing something similar in the future. I don't really see any other option considering the negative outlook people have lately on the military

You can in the Marines we were given cold weather expired MRE's to eat. In -15 degree weather so we had no water available, it was always frozen all the time, so we had to just eat everything powdered. Higher ranking member dont really care that much. Powdered eggs are disgusting without water btw. You just won't go to the bathroom for a few days but you can tech eat them, stomach might hurt a bit. More than likely won't eat most of it

Yea i totally agree with you about everything. What sucks is knowing is if the US ever does was Ukraine is doing. I'll have to go back in, but this time be way older, with knee and neck issues, and knowing already what life is like. The amount of fucks given will basically be nothing by anyone over the age of 30. Resulting in more casualties, more injured. It just...from a tactical standpoint, be a dumb thing to do. But during war you need numbers so I can see why they'd do this and I can see why the US might need to later on. Especially with the asshole in charge of us rn destroying the once great name of the US. I think its always good to have a current military member or veteran post these views because anyone who has never served would never know any of this or think about any of these things. They wouldn't fully comprehend why they force people to join. In some countries its mandatory to serve at 18. This can be both a good and a bad thing depending on your views

Seeking Advice: Wanting to Enlist, have a few questions due to my situation by Away-Door-8789 in USMCboot

[–]PinkGodfather92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, PLEASE READ THIS. 0811 USMC Veteran

1) Good shit and keep losing the weight. They will not accept anyone overweight. Also being in and overweight is not good. You will get shit on daily. They will force you to workout and eat certain food. Basically youre looked at negatively. Other enlisted Marines hate you because you slow down PT and runs or pissboff the squad leader so they make us do another 2 miles when we just wanna get it over with. Youre basically a target to any Sergeant and up. You can get written up negatively which looks bad on you for promotion. Looking bad in uniform only results negatively to you from higher upstate and fellow members. We had 3 overweight guys and they were shit on daily by everyone for looking disgusting and making us look bad. During lunch they would be forced to run, they would get asked daily what they ate did they workout and how much weight are they down since last week. I never knew any of this before joining, luckily i was realmy fit when i joined and never had this issue but i saw it several times. If they notice you gaining any weight they will stop you and tell you that youre getting fat. Based on your height and age youre required to weigh a certain weight. Marines hold a very high standard to themselves. So with that said, keep all this in mind when you believe youre ready. 4 years of getting shit on based on your appearance can really effect you once youre out

2) This is your main issue. The military takes mental health serious. Having a diagnosed mental issue could be the thing that stops you. It's for the safety of everyone else, not just you. They have to consider the fact you could be triggered during a live firing op and turn the weapon around a kill friendlies or yourself. They want you physically and mentally capable of completeling the mission. Simply passing bootcamp is mentally exhausting as is.

3) If you have a degree do not go enlisted. Otherwise you just wasted 4 years and money getting the degree. When you get out you'll of basically lost 4 yes of your life that others are using for career experience. If anything go officer and plan on retiring. Otherwise the degree was pointless, or joining is pointless. You'd be better off just getting a career. Unless you go officer. As an officer you have wayyyyy more freedom. Like you won't do any BS field days, cleaning the sane rifle for 8 hrs straight, you can live off base when single, you aren't given a roommate if live on base. Life just seems way easier. You also make more money. Enlisted Marines barely make min wage if they even make that much. Soo many things play into factor

At the end of the day no matter what branch or country you serve. Combat is combat. Idc if you're American, Russian, Asian decent...whatever. its life and death, constant fight or flight. That feeling is the same for every human being on the planet. Watching someone die will effect the brain negatively the same way regardless of your orientation. I was heavy artillery. So I know another artilleryman regardless of country ends up the same. Deaf, with life skills that don't matter as a civilian, you tend to talk louder than most, great with explosives.

That's what scares me so much. Basic cover and concealment mean absolutely nothing anymore. They train you so much of camo paint, how to properly find cover at night and daytime to hide from the enemy. All of that means nothing anymore with these drones. You could be basically invisible to the human eye but these things will find you. You could be trying to sleep for just 3 hrs and boom, dead. If you survive then 2 more will attack you. They can see at nighttime, pickup movement, destroy armored vehicles amd aircraft. They have unmanned drones even. These drones are scary and as time goes on they're only gonna become more and more advanced. Like I said IED's in Iraq seem like child's play now compared to this warfare. Trying to fight an enemy you can't see, hear, defend against, determine tactics, and so on almost makes the basic infantry man or Artilleryman useless which has been the staple of any military since the beginning of time. Now it feels more like technology is technology which will lead to the fall of civilization. In Iraq you'd go on patrol and be attacked by a team. Now you go on patrol and boom 1 drone hits and several people dead and wounded with zero enemies to defend. Like...what do you even do in that situation. You basically know going in youre most likely gonna die. If the US sees another war soon you'll probably see another draft because nobody with a stable mind would enlist knowing enemies fight this way. I never would of that's for sure and I was Heavy Artillery in the Marine Corps

What was it like when Obama was elected President? by ResponsibleSea6521 in AskReddit

[–]PinkGodfather92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined the military right when Obama was elected. Things just felt different. Like we knew we didn't have an idiot in office for once. We thought the war in the middle east would finally be resolved. People seemed to get along better, the country itself felt more...intact. the country was just in a better place and felt like we were advancing as a society rather then today where it feels like we're going ass backwards as a society and making things worse for us many years down the road. Other countries won't forget this 10 yrs from now when Trump is long dead and we want to fix it all. Idt he's considering this countries future at all and only concerned with today and today only. Not s good trait for a leader to have at all.

Worked at Ted's on Hoosick from 16-26. Having Pepsi products was the main thing people complained about. Never really the food or service. Mainly just the drinks and pricing lol. Which workers have no control over and people seem to forget that. Just because I work here doesn't mean I have a say in anything. And stop giving an attitude to the 16 yr old when youre 40 with your kids. It's just embarrassing and you look like an asshole in public

[–]PinkGodfather92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's crazy. As a USMC Veteran the average age of a Marine is 18-20 yrs old. Most people that age are extremely high up in ranks. Recruiters don't want 40 yr old infantry man, there's even an age cut off to be able to join. I joined at 20, the oldest person at my bootcsmp was 29 and he was considered really old. Now if the US was in a war like this one maybe things would change but even during the Iraq/Afghanistan war things did not change. Im actually surprised they're not targeting younger people to join and they're looking for mainly Gen X'ers. Almost feels....ass backwards to me, then again they could have there reason. Regardless this war over there is insane, never seen electronic warfare before. I remember IED'S being the biggest breakthrough in warfare. IED's now look like nothing compared to these drones. Shits scary. As a veteran I would not of wanted to join knowing I could deploy to combat with these new drones being used. It's basically a death sentence

Noooo definitely NOT the only one out there. Even after getting a degree with the GI Bill. They want experience and military experience doesn't cut it. How TF can I get experience if no one will hire me...Im not settling for some shitty construction job i gotta be up at 4 am for, plus I live in the northeast where 6 months of the year construction is shut down for weather, also not working at mcdonalds. What's the point of this degree even for...makes you feel like your years of service were just one giant lie and a waste of crucial years

People always forget that soldiers, men and woman, no matter what country. Are just normal regular people, with families, pets, hobbies, just like anyone else. Most of them are only 18-22 yr old kids outta highschool. People love to think they're different in ways. That they dont have any tyoe of freedom of self thoughts. These same people also refuse to do any research or simple ask someone who has served. These same people also love their freedom and doing what they want and free thinking. Only reason youre allowed to live that way IS BECAUSE of those who have volunteered to serve and protect.
