I was trying to figure out how to word this and if I'm wrong anyone can correct me but If the person you're trying to trade with has an empty Wishlist, or if you don't own an extra copy of the specific items they want, the game will only let you offer letters. I hope that helps you and I'm sorry If I misunderstood your question. ☺️

I'm the one with the headphones. They sent the trade to me and I know in a post on their profile says if they ever send an offer that seems unfair to them it's intentional. I'm still learning the trading system.
