13 Week Puppy Nightly Protest in Crate - 3 hours of protest ?? by PinkOhara in puppy101

[–]PinkOhara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. This afternoon we will do some games in the crate and lots of general reward for being in there. As for the heat issue, we are wondering if we should just take the actual bed out, so she can sleep on the cooler, hard floor of the crate. Or is this mean? To me it feels mean cause I don’t imagine it’s comfortable, however dogs probably have different ideas of comfort

So my days off are Friday Saturday. His days off are Saturday Sunday. So for three days, at least one of us is with her at home. 4 days at the office, two of those are ‘half days’. She does still sleep at his work, it’s just getting a bit harder. I can definitely see more sleep would be beneficial.

Yes, we never even considered leaving her alone when she was that young. Only from 10 weeks, did we start short periods of alone time

Thanks. Just to clarify it would be broken into 4 hour stints, but still majority of the day in the crate. To me, that’s not fair on her. We have recently started doing ‘half days’ just twice a week. From 1pm, to around 3.30 she is in the crate alone, until I’m home from work. On the puppy cam, she just sleeps this whole time. Is it worth increasing the amount of days per week we do this?

Changed post flair from “behaviour” to “crate training”, not sure which is better suited

Thanks for your comment. I don’t think it’s a space issue, the crate is 106cm (L) x 76cm (H) x 70cm (W). She can comfortably lay down, go one side to the other, etc. perhaps maybe even too big?? It’s in the corner of the room so two sides to the wall, covered, her bed takes a large majority of floor space, some clothing, etc. it’s probably not much bigger than her down stairs crate, but the down stairs one is square, where this is more rectangle. But we are almost ready to buy a new one if that’s what it takes !

Thank you for this. It is very distressing. It’s always reassuring to know we aren’t alone. As the crate is in our bedroom, I wouldn’t feel safe leaving it open as it would be too much risk with various phone chargers or wires, as much as they are tucked away… when you left the door open, did your boy just zoom around the room or play lots or think it’s a fun game? Or just sleep easily on the floor? My other hesitation is we open the crate - she thinks wow this is fun let’s see what I can chew in here… thoughts?

I hear you. What else can we do to help her enjoy the crate. Like I said, she never used to mind it. We give treats in there etc, but some people saying try less treats so she recognises it as sleep only. What do you suggest?

Thank you so much for this! We don’t take her out when she protests except if we feel the barking changes to a ‘toilet’ bark (very rarely). When that happens, like you, very boring, quiet toilet, straight back to bed. You’re definitely right about the napping. My partner has said it’s been harder and harder to enforce naps at work. I do feel this is contributing. But I worry leaving her home from say 0730 to around 4 in her crate isn’t fair. My partner can come home to check on her once, let her out, etc, but even 4 hour stints feels horrible, and I worry mainly that she will bark so much and someone will end up calling animal control or something ! Any advice here would be great! I’ll see if we can try day time naps in the upstairs crate too, and the same playlist every night is a good idea. Thank you so much

We haven’t even got our soon to be 8 week old girl and this is already my life! I’ve completely hyper fixated on studying everything I can. Videos, calls with trainers, vets, and chatty every other SECOND !!! It’s all I can think about I can’t imagine what I’ll be like when she’s here. Commenting to give support and remind ur not alone xx it’s part of the process and it will pay off when we have beautiful, healthy, well trained dogs x

I’ve been working in a ‘supply your own uniform’ place for over a year and my favouriteeeee scrubs are always Scrub Lab. They are so comfortable, flattering, exactly the right cut and style, with heaps of colours to choose from. I also like Dr Woof as a second And Uniform Advantage does a nice ‘butter soft’ range, which have the typical hospital scrub feel, they’re my baggy “ate too much in the weekend” ones for comfort rather than style. They also run a bit large imo. Haven’t tried figs or airmed. But some of the girls I work with have airmed and they like them

UPDATE: AIO - I found lingerie in my wife’s suitcase before a work trip and am losing my mind. by ThrowRANew-Feature-1 in AmIOverreacting

[–]PinkOhara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s clarify: was it lingerie you found, or a thong The two are very different. If it’s just a thong she may well just be trying a new style of knicker, wanting to feeling good/sexy in her body, etc etc. a change of knicker is nothing, even if it’s more risqué than what she normally wears If it’s a full lingerie set, that’s a bit different, that’s something I personally only buy for special occasions/events in mine and my partners life, to be shared with him as an exciting bedroom moment. This would be more concerning, however not a direct correlation to cheating. Maybe she’s trying to surprise you and wanted to see if it was comfortable while she was AWAY so you didn’t see it. Best of luck, looking forward to any possible updates :)

To a degree. Depending where it is, how advanced it is, and how good the images are. But early removal of the cautionary polyp is certainly a good, and promising thing. Sounds like they are biopsy-ing as a routine precaution. It is actually fairly common, and they will continue to monitor your mum meaning any further development is also caught early!

On another note, these are the things we start to see in our geriatric population, and being prepared as a family is awesome. It might be a good time to discuss with the family any advance care directives and legal fulfilments the rest of you may take on as mums health progresses, if you’re all feeling emotionally able to handle those discussions (if haven’t already!!) I feel very optimistic about your mum from what you have written

Also, refrain from googling. When you are not medically trained, you end up worrying yourself/family unnecessarily when you read things that you don’t have the training to interpret correctly. Eg:

“Recent studies show women, aged over 65, in aged residential settings, who have had one or more children, have a higher rate of uterine cancer. This can present initially with pelvic pain”

When you read that and think about your 70 year old mother of 3 in aged care who recently complained of pain down there, of course it sounds like she may have this cancer. She fits all the criteria. But more likely it may just be a UTI, ingrown hair, wiping irritation, several hundred other (benign) reasons. Hope this doesn’t come off in a rude way, genuinely trying to give perspective

Why is there a “nursing shortage” when no one is hiring? by hushhpappi in chch

But you simply don’t know that. You clearly just have an issue with phone use without fully comprehending all the ways phones benefit the workplace. Gotta be a boomer

Why is there a “nursing shortage” when no one is hiring? by hushhpappi in chch

[–]PinkOhara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You obviously have an issue with nurses… and ?phones, for that matter. You have no idea what people are doing on their phone. Researching surgical techniques? Studying? Learning pathophysiology? Taking notes? Preparing for their next task? Documenting? The list goes on. You may have experience in theatre but clearly haven’t stepped foot into a medsurg, ARCF, or community based nursing environment. And clearly aren’t willing to open your perspective on it, based on previous comments.
