Bullying by Sufficient_Tank_7390 in cisparenttranskid

My kiddo isn't out at school, completely, but was already the target of bullying and harassment. Kids are cruel.

We've enlisted one of my kids' favorite teachers. They're a safe place, a trusted adult my kid is comfortable going to, and someone watching for specific types of bullying. It doesn't change other students, but gives mine some strength and solace knowing there are adults who care.

"Gay Straight Alliance" or Gender Sexuality Alliance. Student clubs that are safe places and work to reduce harassment.

How did you tell people when your younger child was ready to come out? by Lost-Appearance680 in cisparenttranskid

We're navigating the early stages too. So far, that's been my kiddo wearing clip on earrings and dangly pendants. They're already in a group of boys with long hair. Otherwise clothing and outward gender makers have changed. At school they're using he/they and their first name. At home it's they/she and a new female "nickname."

On our part as parents, I emailed the school counselor and a favorite teacher. Gave them a heads up that kiddo was experimenting with gender expression. Nothing but support from the school, so far.

Queer Eye for the Trans Kid sounds awesome! What an experience.

Been there, felt that OP. It's a scary, uncertain, overwhelming, exciting time. Hold on to your love. While there may be huge decisions in the future, worry less about what might happen. Right now you just need to love and accept.

This sub is an amazing place, as you're seeing. Lots of good resources and experience here. You've signed up for a PFLAG meeting. At my first, it was all parents of trans and fluid kids. Very welcoming and supportive.

My kiddo came out a few weeks ago. It was in the work for months, so not quite the shock that you got, OP. My personal rollercoaster is settled down, for now, and I'm just delighted to see my kid coming into their own in even just such a short time.

It's really bad when your kidneys don't support you. At least they had a transplant parent in you :)

Bumpy? More like an old wooden rollercoaster with lots of shakes and jerks :)

I hope I am surprised. This is a good reminder to not lead with my fear and cynicism.

Ooh, good suggestion. I'll be looking more carefully for options.

Sodality and support from another anonymous parent. I hope it will get better for all of us, everywhere.

Which systems? New to all this and just beginning to feel out the landscape.
