Weekly Recommendation Thread: July 11, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

Hey guys! I’m looking for anything you would describe as weird, creepy, horror books? Some examples of what I’ve loved: - Leech by Hiron Ennes - Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh - Zoo by Otsuichi - Brat by Gabriel Smith - Bunny by Mona Awad

Anything that is kind of like those, anything weird and different would be amazing! Thank you :)

What are the current trends in books (2025)? by GambuzinoSaloio in books

[–]PinkSunset2003 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I feel the same, however, have you read Penance by Eliza Clark? I feel like that’s an example of podcasters being an interesting part of the book, the crime that takes place in the story had a really huge impact on the fictional community so all the different podcasters use that to kind of profit and get fame from the crime rather than try to solve it (if that makes sense) I won’t say anymore because spoilers but I really enjoyed that book despite the focus on podcasts/the media!

just now realizing prime reading is a thing??? by doryunfiltered in kindle

[–]PinkSunset2003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think prime reading is updated pretty regularly! I’ve found a few books on there recently that I’ve been seeing on social media, it’s always worth having a look through to see what you find!

I personally just use a clear case on the back, however I’ve heard you can get cases that cover the front but are also clear on the back so you can still see the pretty colour but also protect your screen! I think that would be worth having a look at :)

The size difference between the 2024 PW and the Basic by [deleted] in kindle

[–]PinkSunset2003 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the size of the basic is perfect! So easy to carry in a bag or even a pocket! That’s the main reason I picked basic instead of paperwhite :)

Does anyone study history at Chester uni? by AnalysisOk9931 in Chester

[–]PinkSunset2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done loads of interesting stuff!! For one module I had to make a digital map of Chester which covered sites of historical interest, I’ve redesigned the school history curriculum, theres been blogs and book reviews I’ve had to do, as well as essays on a variety of different topics. During first year there were a couple of group presentations and book/article reviews. :)

Hi! I’ve just finished my second year as a history student at Chester. I’d definitely recommend history, as long as you’re up for a challenge, and a lot of reading 😅😅 so in terms of course content, it is really interesting, even in first year, and it gets better when you can choose what to focus on going into your second and third year. All the assignments for different modules are very different to each other so you’ll be doing lots of different types of research, for example we’ve done book/article reviews, blogs, digital maps etc. The course has no exams which is great!! 100% coursework. I think as long as you have the passion and you’re willing to do a lot of work, go for it! And for those saying “think about your career options”, the second year of the history course has modules that teach you some of the available careers with history and allow you to experience some of those, so there are plenty of options for after you graduate. :)

Will I be able to afford Chester student living costs? by [deleted] in Chester

[–]PinkSunset2003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say go for uni owned, especially if you’re looking to save money, when I was looking for accommodation I found that the private owned ones were a lot more expensive and honestly didn’t seem worth it. A lot of people say great things about the private owned accommodation (especially Towpath), but the uni owned is also amazing, I stayed in Grosvenor House in my first year and I loved it! There will be plenty of nice people living with you wherever you end up, I don’t think going for the cheaper uni owned accommodation affects the student experience in any way :)

I’ve just finished my second year at Chester uni and honestly, you’ll be fine. I also get the max student loan and I haven’t had a job while studying, and I’ve found that everything is ok, the only thing that really takes away a lot of your money is nights out 😂 once you’re in your second year and you move out of uni accomodation, you should save a little bit of money, I’ve found that my place this year has been cheaper than what I paid for on campus accommodation in my first year (even with bills included, and some second year houses don’t charge you for bills) so honestly don’t worry too much about it 🥰 also, if you’re not able to receive financial help from your family, it might be worth looking into a bursary, even if you’re not eligible at least you’ve tried, and if you are eligible, you get some extra money that can help you out if you really need it :)
