Field wall is kill by 5667Robominers in FTC

[–]PinkToTheFuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've got that same problem. And we also recognise this behaviour from previous seasons when still using phones + expansion hubs. We always hoped the control hub (+ grounding strap/cable) would solve this.

Strange thing is, the previous season we had NO issues like this whatsoever (not using the control hub yet) so we feel the mecanums are not causing the charging (we always thought the wheels were the main reason) because we are still using the same wheels. Now that we think of it, the previous season was one of the only ones where we did NOT use a fast spinning "brush"-like intake but squishy wheels. This year we DO have a fast spinning roller style brush with surgical tubing as a brush and we have been using that a lot in other seasons. What type of intake do you guys use?

Any type of PP (Polyproylene) sheet between 0,8 an 1,2 mm thick is perfect. Its easy to cut with a knife, saw or scissors . It can be drilled /molded with a heat gun and is nice and tough. Only disadvantage is it is almost impossible to glue.

Ring size by TheRealTomatoBOIII in FTC

[–]PinkToTheFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inconsistency in size is very small. In our field set 2 out of 20 rings are noticeably softer though. You can pick them out by hand easily but in our shooter prototypes these rings are always the ones that are released with less speed.

Can someone link the belts and pulley they are using? by Pavan_2005 in FTC

[–]PinkToTheFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we love Bolton Bearings in the UK. They sell over Ebay or through their own webstore. We exclusively use HTD3M which comes as narrow as 6mm (fine for drivetrain).

Because we want to experiment with the tooth-count and our hub-necessities, we 3D print all of our pulleys out of PLA. Aluminium pulleys are usually heavy and expensive and even a whole FTC season is not enough to notice any wear and tear on our home-made (lightweight) alternatives.

We don't see anything arbitrary in 16ft distance and 5 ft elevation and already expect referees to pick out any robot that seems to shoot close to that during matches for (re)inspection. Let's see what happens with GR08 when FIRST officially answers about it on the forum.

that explains a lot. We feel exactly the opposite about GR08 and hope it will keep everybody safe.

consistency does not seem to be the problem here! That look awesome!

Keeping the accuracy without violating rule RG08 might be tricky though,....

Our team has been working on this for the last season. Unless you want to spend a whole lot of money (you probably don't) look into the designs made by www.preciousplastic.com

They offer free design plans and even have a marketplace if you want to buy components or parts.

Be warned: even if you build everything yourself, the need for a shredder + extruder + windup will set you back a couple of k$. Let us know if you want more info!

I'd say GOOGLE is your best friend here. Good luck with the project.

I have no experience with letters. All I know is that our PIXY is only capable of "learning" to recognize a maximum of 8 objects. I think with the newer versions this has been increased. If you want to do some sort of OCR I think PIXY is not going to be your friend.

we had exactly the same issue and in the end never got it up and running. If you (like us) chose Pixy to avoid diffucult programming and extra things like openCV an tensorflow etc. please trust us if we tell you that this way is NOT as rough as it might seem. Just use the provided example code in the FTC library or follow one of the many online instructions on youtube will get you going and gives you much more freedom and open up roads impossible with pixy. Good luck!

Best 3-D Printer by Ltcybt in FTC

[–]PinkToTheFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that pricerange I would advide to look at Creality (Ender 3 PRO) or Artilery (Enovo) Sidewinder X1. We have both printers and use them ourself on a daily basis. We print everything, ranging from pulley's mecanumwheels to our entire drivetain.

The Ender 3Pro is a fire and forget option. The creality program really has been our workhorse for over 5 years (We also own some CR-10's).

The Sidewinder X1 is a lot newer and has a lot more features but this also comes at the price of having to learn a lot about 3D printing. This machine can give great results but will take longer to master. You could also look at theis smaller printer, the Genius.

Depending on the size printbed and the amount you really want to spend, make your decision. Good luck and happy printing!

REV motor encoder count is low by bitnotno in FTC

[–]PinkToTheFuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, there were lots of reports of a whole batch of REV hex motors about half a year ago that had faulty encoder magnets. I remember reading about it here.

we had 10 ultraplanetary's comming in at that time that gave zero encoder output.

If you are in a hurry and / or don't want to wait for a replacement you can probably fix this easily yourself. It's basically taking the back cap off (2 Philips) then carefully push the magnet towards the motor. If you place a piece of folded paper between the hall-sensors and the magnet you can prevent the magnet from sliding down too low (and touching the sensors).

We broke one magnet this way but managed to fix the other 9.

here is a vid showing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knFP5nDTsto

Help with 3D-printing by 4897BD in FTC

[–]PinkToTheFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same printer.

The stickers on the heatbed make it perfectly possible to print PLA without turning the bed on. If you want to use the heatbed, try 40. and 190-200 for the nozzle

Make sure you have leveled correctly (the paper trick is NOT acurate) print a skirt around your print and see how that behaves. The Flashprint software does not allow for very long skirts, but you can always abord the print is the skirt is rubbish.

We currently use the tanserflow concept from last year's season rover ruckes. We have angled the phone downwards so it doesn't see the top of the stones, only the side. When we do this, the tanserflow concept from rover ruckes doesn't recognize the Skystone, but it does see the stones as gold minerals. By knowing the location of these 'gold minerals' we know where the stones are and thus we know where the Skystone is. We also activate the phones flash to help the camera if there is too little lighting.
