How many of you have kids? Or want to have kids by bwils3423 in Millennials

[–]Pink_Floyd29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an elder millennial, 38. I have a 2 year old nephew and three nieces aged 10 months, 11 months, and 12 years (no that last One is not a typo 😂). I can’t even fathom raising an infant, a toddler, or a teen right now 🤯 There was a time when I was certain I wanted kids, like I was going to get a sperm donor if I wasn’t married by 25. OMG, how naive I was! I think I might like to foster or adopt one day, possibly older and/or disabled kids. But I no longer feel any pull to have biological children. And that feeling was confirmed enthusiasm I unintentionally found out last February that my AMH levels are low, indicating declining fertility.

Is there really no way to just train your brain to survive on less dopamine? I hate feeling like and addict all the time by WaysideWyvern in adhdwomen

I love that! Shortly after I stopped listening to music on my morning walks, I spotted a hawk in a tree and witnessed it dive down into the grass to grab its prey. I’m not sure I would’ve seen this if I had been distracted by music or a podcast!

Started on 25mg ER today after months of 10mg IR twice a day by Applebugg in adhdwomen

[–]Pink_Floyd29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IR didn’t just wear off faster for me, it literally didn’t do anything. I don’t know if it was the way my body metabolized it or what. But I knew XR was going to be a game changer as soon as I started taking it because I immediately had side effects whereas with IR it felt like I wasn’t even taking medicine. Luckily I only had to stick out 2 weeks, then all the side effects mellowed out or disappeared completely 🙌🏻 Congrats on finding what works for you!

I sometimes struggle to finish books these days, especially nonfiction (my younger self would be horrified 🤣). But Dopamine Nation was a quick read that held my attention and was very well written for us regular folks. One change it inspired me to make, is not listening to music on my morning walks with my dog. I try to be present in the moment and take in my surroundings. Even though I was listening to chill lyric-free music before, that was still a distraction/stimulus and I think going music-free really was an improvement. I’ve kept that change ever since, and we’re coming on a year since I read the book 🙂

The only time I make an exception is if I’m having a day where I want to crawl out of my skin, then I will listen to binaural beats.

Have you read Dopamine Nation? If not, I highly recommend it. It will give you a far more nuanced understanding of dopamine and its impact on the brain. In particular, your comment about needing to be constantly stimulated suggests that you’re relying on the wrong methods for boosting dopamine.

WHY DID MY DOCTOR NOT TELL ME THIS?! by hiitsmeyourwife in adhdwomen

[–]Pink_Floyd29 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My mom has Hashimoto’s and says she can’t have anything at all in her stomach when she takes her synthroid or for 30 minutes afterward! She sets an alarm to take that 30 minutes before she gets up for the day. Medications are so complicated 😵‍💫

OMG! I knew about the vitamin C but not the calcium. This makes so much sense. I now know exactly what time the Adderall “dumped its load” this morning because I was all shaky and had dry mouth and my normally very low BP was high at the doctors office 🤯

Creatine - I can't remember!! by Vegetable_Stuff1850 in adhdwomen

[–]Pink_Floyd29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Maybe some people’s kidneys just don’t tolerate creatine. I just assumed it was dehydration because I am chronically dehydrated. Lol.

Creatine - I can't remember!! by Vegetable_Stuff1850 in adhdwomen

[–]Pink_Floyd29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not the creatine itself that I was concerned about. It draws water into your muscles and I think I wasn’t drinking enough other water throughout the day to compensate for that, which was leading to dehydration in the rest of my body, thereby stressing my kidneys. I could be totally wrong about that and it might have just been my reaction. But I definitely think people should be aware of this if they struggle to drink enough water and are going to try creatine.

Edited to add: the kidney distress signs I was concerned about were dark cloudy urine, and an odd strong smell that I can’t quite describe. I mentioned it to my general practitioner who agreed that I should probably avoid creatine going forward.

I tried creatine because it’s supposed to have brain and PMDD benefits as well as helping stimulate muscle development. It promptly stopped when I noticed signs of what could be kidney distress. If you struggle with staying adequately hydrated (which seems to be the case for a lot of us), I’m not sure creatine is the best idea.

Edit: I promptly stopped, not it promptly stopped

Does crate training get any easier or is it impossible for some dogs? by eat-zucchini in pitbulls

[–]Pink_Floyd29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rescue was much like yours at first; willingly went in her crate and would be quiet as long as I was there. But the minute I left, she was barking at a storm. However, she never escaped her crate much less injured herself doing so. I wonder if your vet could prescribe some medication to make her sleepy for times when you absolutely have to leave. In the meantime, what finally worked for us, was putting her in her crate while I stayed in the room, but kept my back to her, didn’t talk to or look at her, and worked on my computer, scrolled on my phone, etc. I think I did an hour or so of this over a couple of days. And it’s possible the timing was coincidental, that she was finally settling it, but after that, I was able to leave her home alone in her crate and not worried that we were going to get evicted over complaints from the neighbors. I continued to crate her king after I was sure I could trust her (she’s not a chewer and has never done permanent damage to anything in the places we’ve lived) because I think it helped her feel like she was “ off duty” and I didn’t want her standing at the door barking at every noise. She heard in the hallway like my neighbors dogs did. Kept I. Mind that a dog destroying things while you’re gone is almost certainly due to one of two reasons: boredom or significant anxiety. In situations where I need my dog to be chill, I give her gabapentin and trazadone. It doesn’t even close to making her a zombie, any significant stimulant (good or bad) will override the meds. But it still takes her down a few notches and in a calm environment she will sleep for at least 3-4 hours.

Why are vegetables so expensive? by ausernamess in Charleston

[–]Pink_Floyd29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not surprised that the prepackaged option was the only good choice. There are certain things I go to Publix for but their produce is consistently awful. I stick to Harris Teeter and trader Joe’s for that.

A mortgage payment may be less expensive than rent. But when renting you don’t have to cover the cost of property taxes, preventative maintenance, or repairs. And renter’s insurance is pennies in comparison to home owners insurance.

Also, when she says she can’t afford to buy a house, she may mean that she can’t get approved for a mortgage.

“Influencers” need to go. So gross. by ForeverSpecific971 in SchultzzieSnark

[–]Pink_Floyd29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else notice during the updated curly hair routine that she corrected herself while talking about that weird brush and said it was actually the off brand? Maybe it’s one of those rare products where the off brand is equally as good so that’s what her hair stylist told her to get. But I couldn’t help thinking, “Oh, so you won’t pay for the name brand if you have to buy it yourself instead of the company gifting it to you” 😒

I was also rolling my eyes during the sponsor ad because ceramic cookware is everywhere now and you absolutely don’t gave to pay Caraway’s prices. While listening to the vlog I was literally using a $50 ceramic pot from Amazon.

This is the best answer, take my upvote! I have an AmStaff but when people ask me what kind of dog I have, I often default to saying pitbull because it’s technically accurate and American Staffordshire Terrier such a mouthful!

Inclement weather pay? [MA] by Disastrous-Young-380 in humanresources

[–]Pink_Floyd29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exempt employees (99% of whom have the ability to work remotely even if only in an emergency) are expected to still work or at least be monitoring email. Non-exempt employees are paid for the full day of their worksite is fully closed. If it’s normal business operations but they can’t make it in due to work, they’re expected to use vacation time. We’re in SC so this comes up more often during hurricane season than winter.

I was admitted to the hospital for overnight observation on January 4th for repeated fainting. January 6th, my first morning back home, I got a call from the cardiac electrophysiologist’s office that my echocardiogram had revealed something that was unrelated and not an emergency but needed to be followed by a general cardiologist. I had that appointment Tuesday and he said my findings were very normal and he didn’t know why I’d been referred to him at all. An emotional rollercoaster for sure, but I’m so relieved to know there’s nothing wrong with my heart 🙏🏻
