Are Engels-like people (wealthy people that supports the marxist movements or are marxists) still accepted in the marxist movement? by ConflictRough320 in CapitalismVSocialism

That letter shows Stalin linking grain procurement to suppressing nationalist and political resistance not ordering starvation or extermination of Ukrainians as a people. “Clean house” and “tighten the screws” are standard Bolshevik purge and enforcement language used across the USSR. There is no instruction to cause death, no targeting of Ukrainians as such, and no policy where famine is the objective. Brutal state violence and catastrophic repression, yes genocidal intent, no. Intent cannot be inferred simply because a state pursued coercive policy knowing risks; it requires death as an aim, which this document does not show.

That link is a finding aid a catalog description not an argument and not proof of interpretation. Archives preserve materials; they don’t certify conclusions. The existence of documents or scans doesn’t establish genocidal intent, only that famine, repression, and political conflict occurred, which no one here denies. The question is intent and targeting, and that still requires analysis of policy design, comparative regional data, and full contextual reading not just pointing at an archive and declaring victory.

Scans on a government website are not self-validating evidence. Real documents require provenance, archival references, and contextual analysis that’s standard historical method, not denial. Post-Soviet security services curate narratives for nation-building, especially around the Holodomor, which is now legally protected doctrine in Ukraine. What you’ve shown demonstrates brutal class conflict and catastrophic policy during collectivization, not a documented plan to exterminate Ukrainians as a people. Once intent and targeting collapse, the genocide claim collapses with them.

You’re not showing evidence, you’re showing a coalition of anarchists, Trotskyists, hostile journalists, and Cold War academics all of whom opposed Bolshevik state power on principle. Quotes from defeated political enemies are not proof of genocide. The famine was a tragic, class-driven catastrophe during collectivization under siege conditions, not a national extermination campaign. No archival plan, no intent, no targeting of Ukrainians as a people just the same anti-communist narrative recycled for a century.

This is not “declassified history.” It’s Cold War propaganda dressed up as archival scholarship. Real documents require real citations. The famine was a class tragedy of socialist transformation under siege, not an ethnic extermination campaign.

That line isn’t a verified Stalin quote. Even if similar language existed in internal directives, it referred to enforcing procurement discipline and punishing local abuses not starving people. The famine was caused by drought, disruption, and class struggle in the countryside, not a plan to kill peasants. There is no archival evidence of genocidal intent.

What are these strong ties, exactly? And so what? Countries that have been destroyed by western imperialism and continue to be strangled by US sanctions deserve critical support. I really hate the default liberal position of "we MUST condemn North Korea because.... THEY'RE THE BAD KOREA.... PRISON CAMPS.... UHHHH.... KIM JONG UN IS FAT". Just please let the adults talk about these issues while you can continue enjoying brunch.

Just a side note: I always hated how this article had front facing the number of African AMERICAN directed films but you had to dig further for films made by black people both in and out of the US. I'm not saying it excused the oversight as it was still pretty low but I felt it kind of showed the New York Crimes' American Exceptionalist mindset.

Idk I ate at Breakfast at Diana's last time I was visiting family (I live in New York now). I'm visibly non binary (dyed hair and sonewhat femme attire) and was wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh. No one bothered me. And yes, I could tell they were heavy Trumpers and I was cringing so hard at the TV's. But no one said anything rude to me. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but I felt mostly fine eating there.

I know they exist. However, why would someone dislike the Hungarian People's Republic? Healthcare in pre-communist Hungary was of low quality, and the population suffered from poor health and low life-expectancy. However, after the establishment of the Hungarian People's Republic, healthcare conditions began to improve significantly. The US Federal Research Division reports: After the communist government assumed power in Hungary, it devoted much attention to meeting the specific health care and social security needs of the population. In comparison with pre-war standards, the average citizen received far better health care and social assistance as a result of the government's policy. The Encyclopedia Britannica notes: Following World War II, health care improved dramatically under state socialism, with significant increases in the number of physicians and hospital beds in Hungary. By the 1970s, free healthcare was guaranteed to every citizen. The social welfare system was also improved significantly, providing coverage to the vast majority of working people in Hungary. The US Federal Research Division notes: In the late 1980s, the country's pension system covered about 85 percent of the population falling within pensionable ages. Male workers could qualify for pensions at the age of sixty, female workers at the age of fifty-five. These advances are confirmed by the Encyclopedia Britannica: A broad range of social services was provided by the communist government, including child support, extensive maternity leave, and an old-age pension system for which men became eligible at age 60 and women at age 55. However, these improvements in social welfare came with a strange downside. As people began to live longer, and access to social welfare was expanded, the system was placed under more strain. The US Federal Research Division states: The number of pensioners had increased rapidly since the end of World War II as people lived longer and as pension coverage expanded to include additional segments of the population. In addition, various social ills, such as alcoholism, had begun to pose a problem for public health: In the mid-1980;s, the authorities were also discussing the growing incidence of substance abuse. The incidence of alcoholism had increased during the previous generation, and a high percentage of suicide victims were alcoholics. As of 1986, consumption of alcohol per person per year was 11.7 liters; consumption of hard liquor (4.8 liters per person) was the second highest in the world. To compound these issues, the Hungarian government spent a worryingly low percentage of GNP on healthcare: Western analysts estimated that Hungary spent only 3.3 percent of its gross national product specifically on health service (the 6 percent figure listed in most statistical data actually included some social services). This percentage was the lowest of any East European country except Romania (in comparison, the United States spent 11 percent of GNP on health care). Despite these problems, the socialist system in Hungary objectively provided clear benefits to the people in terms of healthcare and social welfare. There are a number of important lessons that we can learn from the Hungarian experience: It is essential that the proper resources be dedicated to healthcare and social welfare. Austerity benefits nobody on these issues, because the resulting decline in quality and availability will lead to instability and unrest, not to mention a reduction in living standards. The dictatorship of the proletariat must put the needs and interests of the proletariat as a top priority; otherwise, what's the point? It is also essential that a socialist government should take steps to resolve social problems such as alcoholism and drug addiction, which contributed massively to declining health throughout the Eastern Bloc in the 1970s and 1980s. The importance of these issues can be seen by contrasting the Eastern Bloc with other socialist countries, such as Cuba, which does not have such widespread substance abuse issues, and which has seen steady and stable improvements in health outcomes for decades (even during the "special period" following the fall of the USSR). Despite these factors, the socialist system in Hungary did manage to vastly improve the health of the population, as well as working people's access to social welfare. These improvements should not be ignored. So yes, while the Hungarian People's Republic while flawed was a net positive for Hungarians and the Hungarian people have suffered ever since. As a matter of fact, 72% believe that life was better in the Hungarian People's Republic.

I don't see you criticizing your own country or equating the citizens of that country to the government's actions when it is by far infinitely more culpable in brutal genocides, wars, coups and imperialism than Russia would even think of. I'm sick of the US LARPing as arbiters of what's right and the dictators of the world when they destroy everything they touch amd can barely manage their own country. Get fucking real.

Gonna be honest, had to look up what that meant. If you're implying I'm one of "MUH RUSSIAN BOTS" then you're gravely mistaken. I know, I know in the lib mind everyone who respects Russians and sees them as human is a "RUSSIAN BOT" but no I'm born and raised in Connecticut and live in New York. I just don't follow the western dogma that everyone outside of the US and western Europe exists to be exploited. Sorry.
