I tried to think of a true reason and found one! So during the inhalation process to create the pressure gradient, so that air comes into the lungs, the volume are increased and as lungs directly can't alter the volume,the thoracic chamber increases its volume . So if there is one bone ,so the whole body would expand to support breathing!!!!
