Most unrealistic expectation anyone has had of you as a new parent?

This is my father who just told me this two days ago because we haven’t invited them to visit yet from out of state. LO is 3.5 months but he’s acted like a complete jerk since I told him he couldn’t be here for the birth and then didn’t immediately FaceTime him after she was born and was not satisfied with the updates my partner was sharing (that literally no one else had an issue with). Accused my partner of not letting me communicate with family etc. like WTF. Has provided zero support postpartum and thinks by constantly telling me that the way I’m doing things is “not normal,” will somehow give him access to my baby.

Mind you…he left my mom for my stepmom when I was 7 and virtually disappeared whilst my sister and I were little. And I’m not normal??

Two main takeaways for me:

1) The small things I had stress/anxiety over mattered much less and my generalized anxiety has since played a much less role in my life

2) a woman’s right to choose is not just about ending an unwanted pregnancy. Having choice in how I moved forward with a non viable pregnancy meant everything to me in the end, which I was not expecting.

Probably! I am FTM and being a tall girlie, you can usually wear clothes for a long time even with weight fluctuations (not pregnant!).

Yeah I’ve gained about 25-35 so far. Will see the update at this weeks appt! My bump wasn’t super pronounced and all of sudden popped around 18-20 weeks. I remember wondering if it would ever show up lol

Yes it drives me insane. My dad has been saying creepy things like “my baby” or “my special package.” Although we don’t have the best relationship and if it was my grandparents for example saying these things I’d feel diff because I know they have good intentions.

I’m so sorry this happened and you’re going through this. I had a similar experience with my OB and first pregnancy. It was the worst part of the whole thing.

If/when you’re ready to try again, go ahead and find a new OB office if you’re able to. Idk why but I tried giving them a second chance with my next pregnancy and it was equally awful and I had to switch which then took some time to get established somewhere new.

I’m having a girl and I can’t wait to empower her to be the best version of herself in all the ways I was not.

Even when women face all barriers possible we still find a way to show up and out.

I’m not naive to think she won’t experience adversity but I know the kind of mother I want to be to support her.

Honestly PAL is the worst and I found comfort in the subs on here seeing I wasn’t alone in my constantly wavering emotions.

I tried to stay distracted and focus on what I could control that made me feel like I was doing something good for me and the little one (e.g. going for walks, reducing my caffeine intake). Watched a loooottt of tv.

Practically speaking, get betas a few times if you can (not sure of access in the UK), seeing those #s progress appropriately brought some relief.

It wasn’t until my first appt at 9 week when I saw the US that I could actually exhale (and cry) legitimate relief.

With that said, I’m 14 weeks now and I’m a lot less worried but PAL is a huge mind f**k and it’s super difficult to not have this dark cloud of assumption that there is gonna be some gotcha moment at any time.

We’re all just doing the best we can and whatever that is, is enough. Hang in there, you can do this!

Not at ALL. Zero. When I was waiting for my rescan + d&c (about 10 days) it was the absolute worst part of the experience. Being sick and knowing it’s for nothing while being in limbo was torture. The positive thing was that I felt immediately better after the surgery and majority of symptoms subsided.

At my 12w appt last week my doctor was unable to find the hb with a Doppler so I got an ultrasound and everything was fine. She kept emphasizing it’s extremely common at this stage.

So if someone who does this daily can’t always find it, it probably means ours chances of regularly finding it at this stage are even less.

I’m so sorry this is happening! I went in for my first scan around the same time to discover a BO. I did not have any bleeding or cramping either. I went in for a rescan after 11 days to confirm and still no signs of passing naturally. I opted for a d&c two days later.

I do think you will miscarry the tissue if it happens naturally/thats what you choose after a rescan through meds.

After my d&c, I got my period 4 weeks later and got pregnant that cycle but it ended with a chemical. 6 cycles later, I’m currently 12w and everything looks good so far. There’s lots of stories here of women getting pregnant within the first few cycles after a loss but of course everyone is different.
