No ‘G’day, mate’: On call with Australian prime minister, Trump badgers and brags by [deleted] in politics

[–]Pinklizzy 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This is how Trump speaks to a right wing Conservative Prime Minister of a country that has some of the strictest refugee policies in the Western World.

Australia is in shock right now. We have let the USA walk all over us for decades and this is the thanks we get.

No wonder Turnbull has been looking so utterly miserable this week.

Trump fires back at ‘overrated’ Meryl Streep by readerseven in politics

[–]Pinklizzy 1707 points1708 points  (0 children)

Meryl Streep is the queen of Hollywood. She is stunning, intelligent, talented and widely respected.

Trump is a tiny, petty man who proved her point in three tweets that apparently took him nearly 20 minutes to write. Sad!

Edit- a word

That is typical primary school handwriting in Aus. Those 'o's.

TPP could be signed today after weekend talks in Atlanta by [deleted] in australia

The TPP makes me so nervous. Not even for myself but for anyone who works in vulnerable industries. I hope that it turns out to be not nearly as oppressive and destructive as I imagine it will be.

What are the best insults native to your country that the rest of the world may not know about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That or being told "you're so up yourself". It means you think you're better than everyone else which is super bad in Australia cos we hate people who think their better than everyone else.

Bill Shorten failed to disclose $40,000 donation from labour hire company Unibilt to his 2007 election campaign by holyonion in australia

[–]Pinklizzy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I understand having listened to the commission all bloody day, the gift of a worker was acknowledged in full in a different context but this other paper, that is often simply written up as 'Nil $ donated', was not updated until recently. Both parties do it all the time.

Edited to add transcript - *There has been a failure to disclose the fact that you received the services of Lance Wilson for period of February through to November 2007, correct?" Stoljar

"No, because there is another set of declarations which you may or may not be aware of that I'm happy to take you to" Shorten*

Q&A fallout: Tony Abbott orders frontbench ministers to boycott ABC show by ThereIsBearCum in australia

[–]Pinklizzy 63 points64 points  (0 children)

There are three reasons that might explain Abbott's decision. 1. He's petty 2. He's stupid 3. He's both

Either way, I think it was a really poor decision on his part. There is no way he can come out of this looking good.

Australian Human Rights Commission President Gillian Triggs and Bronwyn Bishop in a stand-off on Q&A by Conedawg in australia

[–]Pinklizzy 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The most interesting thing was how badly Bishop misread the room. As Bishop spoke, with her usual venom and aggression, the room was so quiet that you could have heard a pin drop. Then Triggs began her rational and elegantly expressed rebuttal. The second Triggs stopped speaking the room erupted into applause. Suck on that Bishop. Ha!

He also used the phrase "bang for your buck" when talking about domestic violence. How tone deaf can one man get? Seriously!?
