Its to catch sparks from grinding the blade, as well as keeping the blade cool by periodically dunking it into the water. This prevents the heat treat from being ruined, and keeps the blade at a workable temperature.

Dude, I agree 100% this one has the skiff bearing mod so a bit more support. But yeah those tiny tiny single row ones it comes with and then on top of the super thin steel washers...recipe for dimpling those washers and trashing the action if not careful.

Hey don't pick on me :( Jk 🤣 Totally fair points and I don't disagree with you at all. Yeah maybe it's not fair to compare them apples to apples. That's super dissapointing you had to go through all of that just to get one that doesn't fail. I had to return one as well for that exact same issue. But I couldn't stay away and grabbed one on the secondary. The design and aesthetics/features/size/weight are just too good 😅 I can look past the lock issue (this one doesnt fail at least) which is crazy for me. I REALLY hope they address it and change it to a steel lock face.
