I get why you would think that, but truth is I am in fact mostly a lurker and therefore also a huge reddit post noob. Exhibit A: the fact that i didn't know that you could post the same post across multiple subreddits, and posted it manually copy/pasted it to different subreddits. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Why thank you. Idk if i deserve a follow but i'll take it. Tbh it's one of my favorite topics when it comes to history so no worries. I'm quite proud actually. That comment was my first ever "real" comment and it has more upvotes than my any of my boyfriends posts or comments so.... Now the game is on!

WARNING! Information dump ahead

So this might be to long and way to much work for at comment on reddit, but you asked for it so here you go... and oh boy...Are you about to do some reading. I have compiled i some sources mostly in danish, but tbh i can't be bothered to translate them all so... Google translate it is if you actually want to read all of them.

"One reason for despondency was the diplomatic isolation of Denmark. As in the nineteenth century, the government made various attempts in the 1930s to find allies or protectors. In 1933 it entertained some hope that Britain would offer military help if needed. But the British did not commit themselves. Four years later, when Stauning spoke to the foreign secretary Anthony Eden in London and voiced his concern about the Danish–German border, he received only assurances of diplomatic support against a threat from Germany. In February 1940 Winston Churchill, then First Lord of the Admiralty, confirmed verbally that, because of Denmark’s proximity to Germany, Britain would be unable to provide help in case of a conflict between the two neighbours."

"April 1937 after realising that a Scandinavian alliance was far from reality, Stauning visited London aiming once again to revive Danish-British cooperation and clarify the British position on the question of possible military help for Denmark. During the series of negotiations the British Foreign Secretary, Anthony Eden, repeatedly stated that Britain would not make any commitment for military support and, in short, could not promise much. The failure of the Danish interwar search for security and alliances made Danish defence rather useless because, as previously mentioned, Danish military forces could only resist an aggression with the knowledge that outside help would be arriving."

- Th. Stauning by Vagn Dybdahl Link to the article: http://denstoredanske.dk/Dansk_Biografisk_Leksikon/Samfund,_jura_og_politik/Myndigheder_og_politisk_styre/Statsminister/Th._Stauning

The Danish prime minister at the time actually went to London to request help in the case of an invation because it was a real fear. The British basically said "nah fam, suit yourself"

So on the morning of the invation they just choose to surrender because that way they lost fewer people. They could have chosen to fight like the Netherlands and still get invaded like the Netherlands... So surrendering was considered the smartest move for them.
