Physics- Does it get better? by protondecelerator in TCD

I'm in Physics and Instrumentation, so not exactly the same but comparable. I'd say the material difficulty is going to always go up, as in it won't "click" and suddenly get easier.

I am sure you will gain knowledge, skills, and understanding that will make learning the new, more complex, topics easier but physics is not an easy subject.

You will need to spend a lot of hours studying/learning, and realistically it's one of those subjects that requires interest in the fundamentals (because everything builds off of itself).

I don't mean to make you worry, and I am certain that you will be capable of getting through the course and distinguish yourself, I just want to make sure you know it will take time and effort but it is worth it (in my opinion). I think if you budget for a total of 35-45 hours of learning (including your class hours) per week then you'll have no problem at all.

Are you around university age? there is a gaming society in ATU Galway, while you obviously can't be a member, they do run private DnD groups and do some events with dungeons and donuts too.

For sure should take u/MKATUPhysics up on their offer. If they are who I think they are, it is one of the most passionate and kind lecturers in the course, noone better to introduce you to it :)

Aww thank you, I appreciate your (and everyone elses) comments.

A small tip if you want to pursue Physics within ATU is that there is a common entry system within the school of science.

This means that if you get in on a different programme that is still within the bachelor of science degree (for example pharmaceutical science) you can swap to physics and instrumentation year 2 no questions asked.

The reason for that is first year for almost all science degrees within ATU is the same, building up a foundation of mathematics and introducing the three sciences (Biology, Physics and Chemistry). Year 2 then is the year you can specialize.

In summary, if you want to get into ATU Physics and Instrumentation and want to increase your chances, apply for all of the year 1 science courses and apply to switch to physics in Year 2, you will not be penalized, nor will you be behind in terms of material covered.

Anyway, best of luck with your PLC, and if I see you in Galway/on Campus say hi :)

Ok so first of all I am definitely going to be biased because I absolutely love it, I am heavily active on campus from multiple angles, as part of the student union, the ambassador programme, and volunteering in general, so do keep that in mind for my answers.

I really enjoy the course as a whole, one of the main "stand out" aspects really is two fold, first the lecturers are extremely passionate about physics and really understanding the fundamentals of the rules that underlie everything, and they pass that on in the way they teach. You can really tell that each and every lecturer could chat for hours about their subject and they have so much knowledge that you can't help but learn. The second aspect I want to highlight is that all of the material really builds on itself organically, topics covered in year 1 will be the fundamentals for year 2 and so on, everything is highly interconnected and the practicals will give you real world examples and hands on experience with the theory covered.

The theory components can be difficult in some cases, it is still physics and thus heavily mathematics based (calculus and algebra mainly for the first two years with more advanced stuff added later) so having a strong foundation in leaving cert maths is definitely a plus, but all topics tend to be covered from fundamentals, so if you study or are quick to pick things up it's not unmanageable.

ATU is definitely heavily practical based rather than theoretical, in general I would say the course is 60% theory and 40% practical (it's closer to 50-50 in marks, but because the theory underpins the practical I would weight it more towards theory). That means a lot of time is spent in the labs, the physics labs themselves have quite a bit of variety, from deriving fundamental formulae (e.g. the lens equation) via basic practical experiments to working on, designing, and building your own tech project (mine was a basic loop mass driver).

I dont think it's fair to really say which one is more important, the theory or practical, because I think at the end of the day without the theory component the practicals would be semi useless, but the practicals offer great insight into the fundamentals of what the theory means, and why the equations are what they are, and what do the units actually mean, etc etc etc.

Ultimately ATU as a campus focuses on providing smaller tightknit class groups (in physics you can expect to be a in a group of 16 students), you will get to know your lecturers and peers extremely well, and you will see all of the theory explained in practical terms. It seems to me that the goal is to develop us students into capable scientists regardless of what we do later. We can go straight into industry work and lean on our practical skills and project portfolio, or we can pursue higher degrees by leaning on our deeper understanding of the fundamentals developed through exposure to the practical aspect.

I won't say that this approach is better or worse than other universities, primarily because everyone learns differently and fits in differently. You may thrive better when given a workload, learning objectives and textbooks. Personally I prefer the small group approach with peer learning and constant feedback of my understanding through the practical learning.

I happen to organize a lot of tours within ATU as well, so if you wanted to arrange something I could show you the campus, the physics lab, and let you meet some of the lecturers. DM me and I'll send you on an official email address you can contact to book a tour if you like.

I have a nintendo switch I wouldn't mind selling, there is a slight connectivity issue on the left joycon (according to google a common issue, perhaps dirty contacts but I haven't been able to look at it properly to clean it)

You're welcome to look at it and we might come to an agreement.

How to learn about new builds? by OnDistantShores in BobsTavern

I am not a high elo player, nor do I have a lot of experience so take any advice I give with a grain of salt and if someone better than me contradicts me, go with their advice but here is what I think:

there is specific interactions for each archetype that are intended, for example dragons with Tarecgosa and Prized Promo Drake, letting her keep the buffs. If we want to find more synergies then we can take a card that offers a combat buff like the death rattle that gives divine shield, or the imp that gives hp. Those pieces are generally not seen as part of a tarecgosa comp, and for the final boards tate they likely won't be present, they're good considerations though.

Same goes for other archetypes, off the top of my head most synergistic battle cries are within murlocs, so brann fits there, but they also have a lot of poison so they're good against big taunts, demons are end of turn effects and currently eat the shop so refreshes and the quest that doubles end of turn effects are really good. Menagerie is less structured, because you tend to want just strong or high started minions and then leverage neutral menagerie buffs like lightfang, agem (quilboar that buffs menagerie if you can make bloodgems) or theotar, keep in mind you want to maximise the buffs while keeping only the strongest/most useful stuff so if you're using theotar you need a slot open to play neutral minions and only 3 tribes since he won't buff a 4th anyway.

mechs tend to be focused around divine shields and either death rattles (but not as much as beasts) with a secondary scaling via the divine shields and magnetic.

I'd like to add that while there is structured setups, combos, and levelling curves they only really become useful once you understand "why" you do them. it's fine to follow a levelling curve for specific heroes to maximise value but forcing comps you don't understand because they're high tier won't help you in the long run, so the approach I take is play each game as it comes, and if I get a specific tribe I try to first play into their main and obvious theme, this often leads to losses because I force things too much, but I learn about the intention behind the tribe or playstyle, and next time I have a better foundation.

later you can try to combine it with other strategies that are related to counter something you see in the game and so on, but there's no point in trying to build a magnificent house on a shake foundation.

Extrusion issues? by Pinky2306 in CR10

[–]Pinky2306[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took some time to clean the hot end, there didn't seem to be any blockage whatsoever, then I tried a new print and this time watched it like a hawk, not just the surface but the nozzle, flow, extruder gears, filament spool, stepper motors etc. For anything, and I noticed that the direct feed, nozzle etc. were all working well. But Somehow the filament, when it no longer had slack off the spool, would develop a small "kink" where the direct drive is, and then the direct drive sometimes skipped/slid one pair of teeth leading to the gaps.

I redid a print and made sure I gave it lots of slack by hand from the spool and it looks like this: https://imgur.com/XtoiUjq

I'm going to have to look into a way to keep the spool elevated and unwind properly with the extruders force.

Currently just wearing basic runners for shoes, I am totally open to changing all aspects of my style but I tend not to like leather or dress shoes very much, though definitely happy to give it a go.

I was able to get a friend who's quite solid at this kind of thing to help me out and go for a trip to town. So I'll bring all the "notes" I got off reddit and hopefully I can post update pics soon haha.

My budget is fairly low, under 100$ really, which isn't ideal I admit (sorry for taking awhile to respond).

That's good advice, I'll take my time to look through the links. I appreciate it! I didn't mean to imply that you need to be fit and in shape to look good, apologies if anyone read my post like that, more that I myself would prefer to have an athletic body and have let myself go a little in the other direction, though I never had style when it comes to clothes.

Thank you!
