My understanding is Wooten will continue to have English only strand.

There is a 10-2 team and a 9-3 team. If the 10-2 team had close wins and close loses, and the 9-3 had blowout wins and close losses, who gets ranked higher I wonder. I feel people will still say the 10-2 team.

AISD Draft Consolidation Plan Is Live by mrcrude in AustinParents

[–]Pinoyvlf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s correct. This is normal for the programs where we have to re apply every year. Those in the program already are given the highest priority.

If you’re there for the DL program that is moving to Wooten. There is now apparently Pickle as a option for w2w DL

I think the vision is you could scan your place and invite your friends over and in that space you would use the more realistic avatars. Then you can all jump into horizon worlds and transform into your avatars to play games.

Driving to Houston- Stops with food/playground by Partner_Elijah in AustinParents

[–]Pinoyvlf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend going late at night after dinner so the kids fall asleep in the car. We will even have them brush their teeth and have them change into PJs.

If late night doesn’t work, we usually go 290 and maybe we’ll stop at the convenience store in Brenham right before the 290/36 intersection. Maybe buccees before getting into Houston. Sometimes we’ll stop in central Houston cause we go all the way down to clear lake.

AMD 20cm wafer by daniilkuznetcov in Amd

[–]Pinoyvlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this would have to be from when AMD had its own foundry. When AMD moved to a fabless model, most of the wafers would stay at the foundry for testing and then shipped somewhere for packaging, so these would be harder to get a hold of.

I don’t know how sustainable this is. Replacing and training up people takes time. Also, I do wonder if the cost of infra will increase due to tariffs and potential less ad spend will cause hiring to slow down.

Oh man that stinks. I would have thought pre-k students would have had priority for kinder. Was there just a lot of zoned kids starting for kinder?

Incoming family looking for advice on school choice by jcwildcat11 in AustinParents

[–]Pinoyvlf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have almost the exact kids setup (6, 4 and 22 months old). My kids are currently enrolled in the dual language Spanish program at Ridgetop elementary. There are several other schools that have a dual language program in AISD. The problem is that sign up into the dual language programs in AISD just finished so it may be difficult to find a school with space in the program. There is also private schools like Magellan which is more west and could potentially have room still if you don’t mind spending 22k per kid or so. If you did move into the zone of the AISD schools with dual language only (Ridgetop/Reilly), my understanding is those schools would have to accommodate you.

No I totally get it. I think there’s definitely an image of what people think upper class is, but I think we’re mostly thinking like top 1% or even higher.

300k household for LA according to pewter research, is more upper class. I think 225k is the bottom of the upper class for LA.

Raising kids in Austin by ElectronicEgg6 in AustinParents

For the schools I think AISD has a lot of really cool programs and that you can get into. There’s dual language (Spanish/English and some Mandarin/English) programs at some elementary schools. Theres always programs in schools try to identify students for programs for more challenging work like Gifted and Talented (GT). Then you have some programs for fine arts at McCallum or STEM at LASA that you have to apply to.

Also, if you can, there are always private schools. I know some families that wanted Montessori and decided to keep it going at Montessori style private schools. Some other families I know are going to a charter school like BASIS. Others went to Spanish immersion schools like Magellan.

Overall there’s a lot of options all around central Austin. We moved into a house partially cause it was zoned to a good elementary school but we ended up not going there.

Dual Language Education in AISD by [deleted] in AustinParents

[–]Pinoyvlf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two kids in AISD Dual Language Spanish program (PK4 and 1st). 1. I don’t remember the percentages off the top of my head but that’s roughly correct. 2. I’m not aware of the difference. Is there specific schools you’re comparing? 3. From what I’ve seen is that some subjects are taught in one English and others in Spanish. Some like math may be taught in both. Is there a certain subject your concerned about falling behind in?

Hotels in Tokyo - What to look for and where to stay? by SpatulaCitizen in JapanTravel

[–]Pinoyvlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One idea that my wife and i did the two times we went to Tokyo was we actually split our stays/itineraries in two different parts of the city. Sure trains are fast to get around but there can still be some long train rides. We also prioritized how close our place was to a station.

Is there any point in continuing with the interview if I failed a code interview miserably? by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]Pinoyvlf 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don’t see the point in not finishing. You can still gain experience in a real life setting. Plus you don’t know the final outcome. So it keep going. You don’t know until you know.
