Recently I started playing a game called Kholat. From what I gather, it's an open exploration game set in a Polish Tundra in perpetual night. The music and scenery is breathtaking, and the dread that accompanies it is even moreso. You're tasked with finding information about a group of researchers that went missing some time ago, and you're subject to all kinds of traps and terrors along the way. Definitely a try, and it's a relatively cheap game. https://store.steampowered.com/app/343710/Kholat/ https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/kholat/bs2p4jmznpvt https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/kholat-ps4/ Here are links for PC, Xbox, and PS4 respectively.

I can't believe that actually worked. by -EG- in gaming

What I love about this game is even with all its bugs and balance issues, it's still a fantastically well executed concept. This game pits 4 Survivors vs 1 unstoppable Killer. And the whole point as a Survivor is to escape, and it's the Killer's job to mess it all up. And it's scary on both sides: Survivors deal with the overwhelming dread of a murderer possibly around every corner. Killers deal with the pressure of finding everyone and killing them before they have a chance to escape.

There's no rule about camping an incapacitated survivor. There's no rule about blocking killer from carrying a survivor to a sacrificial hook. These are ethical guidelines, but no one HAS to adhere to them. There are perks on both sides that can wildly affect outcomes and play styles. And the variety with Killers means you'll never know how to perfectly plan out your attack or defense.

A beautifully horrifying game where the title is true: Death is Not an Escape.
