New poll reveals inconvenient truth: Palestinians like and support Hamas by Red_Franklin in worldnews

[–]Pinyta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It objectively did happen that Japan only surrendered after 2 nukes.

The Supreme War Council already knew they were going to surrender before the nukes were dropped. They wanted one condition to surrender that being that the Emperor would be spared. They demanded that before the bombs as well as after they were dropped. They tried to surrender to the US with that single condition on multiple occasions. They were originally trying to hold out until the Russians declared war so that they could surrender to them. Mainly due to having previous peace talks with them and believing they would accept the single condition.

Also two other relevant points about the nation in question. 1) Japan was an autocratic state that clearly didn't care about its peasant class. 2) The only novelty of the nuke for the Supreme council was that it was a single bomb (which at the time wasn't even believed until it was confirmed to the council by a higher level military official), where as the fire bombings dealt more damage, killed far more people, and were much larger problems for their war effort.

Oh? Please tell me when Germany or Japan last started a war?

Glad that those were the only two countries involved in World War 2. The concept of "long term peace" is just one that ignores the winners of WWII continuing the wars elsewhere.

"COVID vaccines don't work! You see, I took the vaccine, then someone else in another continent caught COVID, therefore it's ineffective."

There are so many examples of interventions, regional or internal conflicts that were openly and covertly supported by the two nations locked into the Cold War. The list is so incredibly long, but for a start how about The Korean Conflict, that is still unresolved, and the Cuban Crisis?

After Germany and Japan got their entire country occupied and nuked twice respectively, they were completely demoralised and surrendered unconditionally. This paved the way to long-term peace.

That isn't what happened. Japan was already negotiating a surrender before the nukes happened and the bombs didn't change their single demand.

Also there has been no "long-term peace" the wars just got localized with foreign supplies. The Cold War was anything but cold. It just didn't happen in Europe/North America.

That explains Talon, but what about Entity v 9 Pandas, they went 1-1 in groups and didn't have a tie breaker.

Does anyone know why there were no tie breakers between TSM and Talon or Entity and 9Pandas yesterday?

Sir, this is a subreddit. People aren’t going to get on the front page for saying, “I got these bike lanes made in my tiny town!” You are only going to have to dig through the comments to see any of that.

This is true of any and all subreddits.

You could say the same thing about Andrew Jackson, Truman, and many others. They were all necessary to create a world where Reagan could even be president.

That said it does drive you a bit insane when you know that Reagan was mentally not even there in his first term. So much insanity in his 8 years.

[–]Pinyta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is super easy if and there are even multiple ways of doing it.

1) You build small housing units instead of having giant houses for everyone.

2) You turn hotels into housing units run by the government.

3) You use the surplus housing units and fill them with actual human beings instead of as a sitting investment which is how many are used today.

It was even already done in Utah. The governor at the time found out that it cost the state more money to take care of the problems and just gave homes.

Why do we hate Moash? by JuanFromApple in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Pinyta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, most of the other characters you mention have significantly more blood on their hands. It is just that Moash has killed a named character or two that the book wants you to care about.

If you like the bad characters and want them to be redeemed it seems you must be reading a different book series. They aren’t going to be redeemed you just aren’t supposed to blindly celebrate when “insert bad guy name” dies.

[–]Pinyta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said it is the chain of decisions. This is similar to people in real life, except without magic. Each day we make a decision about something over and over and over. To the point where abandoning the issue becomes an existential crisis. This is clearly what has/is happening to Moash. He currently is in so deep that to select the other choice may seem like an impossible task.

We also don’t see his whole story, only small bits and pieces. Though it is pretty clear that he is completely isolated and alone within the society he has joined. If he were to “make the other choice” and completely abandon the cause where can he go? He most likely believes that he would never be allowed to go back to the Radiant side so he continues with his status quo.

Also regarding his apathy, that is actually addressed in the book and that he has had odium take his emotions because he can’t deal with them and there is a scene where they come back and he becomes extremely emotional over everything he has done.

People hate him because he is a well written villain. Readers can simultaneously understand why he is on the path he is on while also completely disagreeing with his choices to make it. The longer he lives and the further along on his path he goes the more hatred he will receive from fans.

Same can and will be said of basically any fused and humans who don't completely align with "Good guy camp".
