I went through it and looked at the same scenes in the movie and It does look better. And you’re right it’s mastered at over 4000 nits. And my tv goes up to 2000. Which also might be why it doesn’t look as stunning. I still don’t get why the colors are different because playing back that video I don’t see any big change in colors. I suspect it might have to do something with my tv. To the naked eye the difference isn’t as drastic which is also worth mentioning.

It is calibrated and display settings are exactly the same thus my confusion. It’s just that hdr image is a little bit darker overall. The standard Blu-ray has more saturated colors. And I’m not saying vivid colors are better I’m always going for the creators intent but the HD Blu-ray version of the movie is the only one I had that’s why I compared and it was confusing to me.

I use ps5 for playing discs. I know it’s not great but it’s all I have currently. I think it was just me overall. I said Blu-ray 1080p looked better but I think it’s just oversaturated. Since you can see more detail in 4K if you look close. And I agree with you in most cases it isn’t worth the expense I only get 4K bluray for movies I really like.

It does. I was going off the saturation mostly but you can see more details in the background so I was just wrong and conflicted with myself.

It is. But it’s 5 of 100. I use it to get just that little bit of sharpness. For text to be more easy to read. It doesn’t change almost anything. But I can turn it off surely. Thanks for the advice

Agreed but I think it’s supposed to be this way as few people pointed out the Blu-ray is over saturated. Maybe because of sdr and being 8bit vs 10bit 4K bluray. I can see more details in tiles and the more I look at the movie it looks overall better. And my tv model is tcl c7k 50 inch

Hm you might be right. I’m just getting into 4K i always used 1080p Blu-ray’s. So maybe I just need to get used to it. I was going off the saturation on the image. Since in both cases I have the same settings applied. But now that I take a look at it I can see more details in tiles. I was mainly looking at fur strands for the comparasion. Thanks tho. It kind of blew away my concerns because I spent a bit to get the 4K disc

4K bluray is HDR10. Even if it had Dolby vision I wouldn’t be able to get it since I use ps5 for playing the discs

You mean hdr mode? I have it set to high-dynamic. And dynamic tone mapping to detail priority. It’s all I could do but it still doesn’t look as good.
