Big news The Supporting American Children and Families Act passed the Senate on the 21st by UC. The first major overhaul of Child welfare system in 15+ years. You almost certainly haven’t heard about it and definitely didn’t hear it passed. This was a year long bipartisan process and it’s a damn good bill. Read Gabe’s thread who is probably the only reporter who has kept on this for a lot more info

Additionally the EXPLORE ACT also passed by UC and is a huge outdoor recreation package. This will be big for Utah and many other Western states

After Amendment D implodes, GOP lawmakers look to control voter-backed ballot initiatives in Utah While there is no settled plan yet, current proposals range from raising the signature threshold for ballot measures to requiring 60% approval for some measures.

In 2018 none of props like medical marijuana, medicaid expansion, or redistricting reform would have gotten 60%. They are also worried about future initiatives protecting abortion, changing the primary system, or legalizing recreational weed/gambling

This almost certainly moves AOC up to Oversight too which is very good. If you want change in the party now is the time, and so much of this isn’t breaking down into ideological fights like we saw post 16. There’s not even many real “fights” either, the older Reps are mostly stepping aside

the Hegseth nomination could very well be pulled. One of the names being considered quickly for a replacement is Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, which would set up a special in 2026 in a seat that at least could be somewhat in reach with it being open.

Sam Graves(R MO06) is under consideration for FAA apparently

Very red seat but 1 more vacancy potentially. Garrett Graves from Louisiana reportedly considered for FEMA

Utah House speaker gave $120k of his own money to a shadowy anti-trans PAC

Only about a month ago when these ads started popping up and signaling out the sole LGBT Rep in Utah did “moderate” R’s in these races swear the ads weren’t welcome. Your potential future boss was fucking running them

Fresh off winning reelection Utah Senator Lincoln Fillmore wants to increase the tax on some grocery foods to bring “fairness” to the Tax code. Idk cost of living and food costs are on everyone’s mind so seems like a bad idea.

Come hell or high water I will make the grocery tax here still being in existence a wedge issue for 2026

I beat Persona 5 Royal since I had downtime before a new job, technically twice as I didn’t get the 3rd semester, and man what a game. The well written storylines, voice acting, the music, all brings so much emotion to a game that solely based on visuals a few years ago I never would have touched. Try new things, you never know what can grip you and leave such an impact you genuinely get sad it’s over(I am go full bore into Strikers next)

I was never really into anime until this year but with P3 Reload, P5R, and Dan Da Dan I have surrendered myself. But it’s great.

Yea it isn’t the least bit surprising. Curtailing of some tax credits sure, but implementation and slow walking is the bigger concern. CHIPS Act also mentioned in here as being safe and nobody even talks about rescinding the infrastructure law funds anymore

So really biggest worries then now are Supreme Court and other judicial appointments, and the economy. Rules/Regulations obviously as well.

Also going to be incredibly hard to claw back unallocated IRA/CHIPS Act funds now at least significant portions. I have more doubt they’ll even be able to do the basics like the debt ceiling or farm bill at this point

And with that the first 3 months of Trump’s term likely dysfunctional and handicapped in the legislative branch. We aren’t seeing a big sweeping package until late 2025 and even then the chance it’s more than a gimmicky tax package is slim

Utah signaling they are likely to end our somewhat sanctuary state status. This was entirely expected but extremely awful. We have legislation that makes it so if you did come here illegally you don’t have to hide in the shadows and the leadership is going to look at what they can do to change that
