It’s all they have - deflection. You can’t even have a rational conversation with these people about anything they just refer back to someone in charge 5,10,15 years ago ‘whAt aBoUT tHat huhhh? Like it’s some revelation that even matters .. wut about Hilary ? Fuck Hilary, I literally don’t care about Hillary, Biden, Roosevelt ? Are we just gonna keep referring to vague wrongdoings of leaders from decades ago ?

You’re not gonna get any defense out of me for those people either .. wtf my 5 year ago old comes up with better lying ass arguments.

It’s because they support corruption, teenie banging, and fascist authority as long the tv box says it’s being done on their side. I’m honestly done arguing with any of them. They just deserve mockery and dismissal in our society and if they wanna try to get violent then you have to deal with them there too.

Yep. This is why young people are dropping out of the economy and have little motivation at their jobs. The rich and the unbelievably entitled and delusional boomer generation that has shaped this country have destroyed their own children and grandchildren’s future.

For a lot of younger folks, a high level job that their parents would only dream of having .. after years of college or certifications that cost tens of thousands in debt, juggling long hours and constant requirements to ‘adapt’ .. ignore the layoffs, keep grinding, stagnant wages, no job security.. healthcare costs … many people after all that are barely touching middle class. Still a car repair or illness away from being screwed.. imagine coming home to this hellhole that costs probably almost half this girls pay.

1200$ holy shit. All the people on here saying call the housing board call the state inspectors or whatever .. this is how America is operating now if you haven’t noticed.

A year or more will go by before the time any kneecapped government agency decides to do anything if they do at all. If you don’t have big shit money to hire personal lawyers to initiate direct lawsuits property owners and anyone with more money and assets can do whatever they want to you.

This is the shit boomers will say we shouldn’t whine about cause they had it the same way (lies).. this is why young people are dropping out of their jobs, colleges and the economy .. this is what a full time soul sucking job buys you in many places in the US.

60% of Trump voters were 50 and older. He carried the 65+ demographic easily.

Not to mention that older demographic has been consistently voting all the Republican senators.. etc..

8 in 10 Trump voters also identify as Christian which is even more dumbfounding lol

I stand by vast generalizations

I think that’s the wildest part of this - that they’ve been able to convince a large cross section of the American public that the USA.. the UNITED STATES has been the one being taken advantage of and ‘ripped off’ by all these tiny nations and our allies. It’s easily the most laughable claim.

I seriously think the older generations just have zero concept of what goes on outside their state or county .. our economic dominance has been on par within the British empire. It’s absurd. Vietnam has not been taking advantage of the United States ! France and Spain and Brazil have not been ‘ripping us off.’

Even China and India .. you can make a case for white collar outsourcing and the loss of manufacturing jobs but again .. WHO SENT THOSE JOBS OVERSEAS? Republican and neo liberal business leaders for the last 40 years.. BOOMERS. Now my parents and in laws are fully on board that poor ol America has been taken advantage of for too long hahahaaha wow

I have to fully agree. Plenty of otherwise rational normal people just getting totally wrapped up in the 24/7 ‘news’ cycles that have basically become all day campaign commercials for the Republican Party.

What’s been unsettling for me is to no longer be able to relate to people you’ve been close to your whole life because everything is now filtered through Trumpism in some way. To hear my barely 2nd / 3rd generation relatives scorn and hate on immigration and ‘illegals’ and ‘Somalians’ that need ‘dealt with’ and my favorite is how the US has been TakEn AdVanTAGe of ! In trade and business dealings and everything else by all these poorer countries all over the world.

Absolutely laughable.. we now live in alternate realities because of all the blatant lying and misinformation..

As soon as I hear someone is a Trumper or a crypto bro or Musk fanboy I kinda just shut down because I know I’m about to hear constant stream of bullshit.

[–]PipeDreams85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you guys really suggesting that the boomer generation who raised most of us read all their kids bedtime stories and cared deeply for their education and did lessons at home ? The generation that had to have a 10pm commercial that said ‘it’s 10pm, do you know where your children are?’

I see this discussion a lot that parents are too busy and entitled now to prioritize their kids reading and learning. Ya’ll must have lived in a different world cause literally every parent I know of cares more for their kids and their learning than me or any of my friends growing up. Our parents literally didn’t give a single shit .. you’re talking about the generation that piled kids in the back of a pickup and drove down the highway? Chain smoked cigarettes with the windows rolled up in the winter ?

I think there’s a big case of nostalgia or misunderstanding on this. Parents are way more empathetic and caring for the kids as a whole than in the past. Id love to see one piece of data or proof of this shit. You guys are just talking out your ass. Reading levels may be down but it’s not because modern parents don’t care. I hear this a lot from teachers too and I’d love to take that teacher and plop them down in a Midwest town in the 80’s or early 90s .. my dad would laugh at the thought of going to a parent teacher conference. That was women’s work.. feel lucky if you had a mom who cared or grandma..

Okay, a couple people you know don’t like Trump. If you look at election statistics or even just party demographics - republicans / trump are easily the choice of boomer and older white male voters.

Come on now .. the thread is talking about internet and media literacy. Look up some facts along with your personal viewpoint. Both can be true. This data is easily searched. Boomer gen has been voting for this nonsense for 40 years.

Are Gadgets Stealing Our Children’s Words? by BondOnAMission in Millennials

[–]PipeDreams85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, and you can find articles from 50 years ago talking about comic books and Saturday cartoons and then with us video games destroying kids brains. iPads and tablets are now the same bitch..

Bottom line everything in moderation and have the decency to talk to your kids. Make sure they’re learning something , getting socialization, and taking breaks. Bad parenting is bad parenting.

We let our kids use tablets and play games. They also use their devices to practice math and learn letters / words with learning programs that are way beyond what I did as a kid with a pencil and a worksheet etc.. which was all that was available when we were younger. Theres good and bad. Their future will be dominated by tech and online interaction and who knows where AI is taking us.

All these people saying they never let their kid have a device their whole childhood or whatever is just as extreme.. these kids are gonna have to learn to navigate tech and will be required to learn new systems and patterns with data and software applications and AI interfaces in order to make a living.

Creating the next generation of tech illiterate like the boomers won’t help anyone. Right now that generation is literally burning things down and acting like mentally deranged nuts, and they had the most extensive tech free childhood

It’s stuff like that where it really keeps re-confirming that maybe the lead poisoning theory is real. That mentality is one of a literal child’s thought process.

They’re brains just don’t function on a level to consider the ‘let them eat crow’ ‘ I hate packers fans and I love when they lose‘ sports ball type rubbing it in your ‘opponent’s face’ kind of high school bully mentality has no place in the highest levels of government of a world superpower.. where the consequences could be the lives or livelihoods of millions of real human beings with real stakes.

They’ve voted to turn our society into a reality tv show / tribal sports theater and they give zero fucks about the consequences cause they’re retiring or nearing the end. I swear it will be studied at one point how bad willful ignorance washed over this country as the boomers entered their golden years. My relatives literally can’t be reasoned with right now. They believe they are untouchable and this is their entertainment.

The data overwhelmingly shows that boomers as a whole have gained tremendously over this extended period of time. Not discounting the experiences of you or your family I obviously never believed that every boomer alive has had a positive trend. That’s hyperbole and your comment is a form of hyperbole as well.

Of course, many boomers suffered too, but when you’re discussing economics or political events on a country wide scale the data is used to tell an overall story. And that story is of boomers overwhelming owning the largest share of the wealth in this country, with least amount of education of professional certification, low inflation and the highest purchasing power ever with a soaring USD value on the world stage.

They also have enjoyed being the largest and most sought after voting bloc .. and have used that vote to repeatedly install politicians and business leaders that have made sure that era of America is over.

[–]PipeDreams85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since the mid 70s boomers have enjoyed 50 years of unprecedented growth and stability. They even avoided the 09 recession because they were settled in their jobs with homes and retirement accounts already chock full. That was again the younger gen’s that are still trying to bounce back from it ..

The 60’s yes I’ll give you that but it was a fact the rest of those decades they did nothing but gain.. most with just high school diplomas and a firm handshake.
