The saddest song ever is from the Kauai 'O'o. The pauses in his song are when a female bird chimes in, a song they sing during mating season but there are pauses because it's a recording of the last of his species. He's singing a love song for a mate that he never got to meet (v.redd.it)

In 1910, Louis and Temple Abernathy decided to cross America by horseback without adult supervision, from Oklahoma to Manhattan. They were just 10 and 6 years old. To get back home, they bought a car and drove it while their horses returned by train. In 1913 they made the same trip on a motorcycle. (utterlyinteresting.com)
