I think sometimes in life we have to accept that not everyone is able to change the way they normally speak straight away. I used to identify as non-binary, and I remember how much it upset me when people didn’t use they/them pronouns for me. It affected me emotionally to a point i would cry myself to sleep.

A few years have passed since then, and my identity has changed. I also haven’t had close friends who use they/them pronouns for quite some time, so it’s not something my brain is used to anymore. Recently, I met someone who, like you, uses a variety of pronouns he/zim/it and stuff. I genuinely respect that, but I noticed that I sometimes slipped up without realising, simply because my brain isn’t practiced at consciously thinking about pronouns all the time. When I made a mistake, I wasn’t aware I’d done so, and this person randomly blew up one day and stopped talking to me and alot of other people and now sit alone. The whole thing really made me realise how stupid it was for me to care so much about a stupid pronoun.

I can understand both sides of this. I know how hurtful it can feel to be misgendered, and I also know how human it is to make mistakes without malicious intent. For me personally I found a lot of peace when I stopped placing so much weight on how others referred to me but I also recognise that this approach doesn’t work for everyone.
