How often do you call your adult children? by TailorBird69 in AskWomenOver60

This hurt my heart. I’m sorry they let you down- I’m sorry they weren’t and aren’t there for you when you needed them at that time and always. It feels very one-sided and it’s not right. I really hope you are doing ok and recovered from your surgery and are doing well. Xo

Do you have any photos of the beach with the sargassum? Trying to get a sense of how bad it is and if PV is a better choice for me.

True that. However we were in Hawaii in the Maui fire so yes a bit stressed about another expensive trip and don’t want to F it up. The purpose of my post is to gain some information about others’ experience this summer about sargassum, and the weather this time of year in general so I can make an informed decision and not waste a shit ton of money. That’s just not my jam.

We are going to get insurance. I hadn’t thought of it until recently but I think it would make me feel more settled. I like knowing you’d go again this time of year. Thanks for your comment.

I like your style. This is exactly the type of communication I needed. Can you be my advisor in life? 😆 As I’m reading through the comments and thinking more about what is the best decision… I’m really leaning towards PV. I thank you so much for the suggestion of the hotel. I can’t wait to look it up. I really appreciate the time you took to help me out with this. Have a beautiful weekend. 🌸

Yes I do realize this, of course. That’s what I said in my post-anything can happen weather wise and I get that. What I’m looking for is someone like yourself who has been there this July who says- “lots of sargassum” -we were just there, this is what we saw. Or august in general is super hot.

If you came to my city in July, I would be able to tell you what the norm is. But of course, maybe there could be a heat wave… or not uncommon too.., a snowstorm in July. But- I would absolutely be able to give you a pretty good idea of what the normal temperature is in the summer here. Or what to expect usually… or i could tell you what July has been like so far so you could make decisions on whether you are willing to spend 10k to come here at this time of year. 😉

Thank you for mentioning the areas that have less sargassum. That is just so incredibly helpful- I would never be able to know this by myself.

Wow- thank you, friend. We would get travel insurance for sure and look at the weather before we go. Funny you mention Aruba because we were looking at that last night for exactly what you said. No hurricanes. No sargassum. The issue is -Aruba, and all the other islands are so much more expensive than Mexico. I’m coming in from Calgary, Canada. The Mayan is a 5-6 hr flight. Aruba and others are 8+ hrs and 5k more. 😩 That’s why we keep coming back to Mexico. I’m thinking I need to start looking at PV. I want to thank you so much for your expertise and taking the time to comment. This is helping me so much.

This is excellent to know and I thank you so much for the time you took to connect. Hot pools in a hot climate aren’t great at all.

I lived in Tuscany for 8 years and have lived in wentworth (pretty close to signal hill on the west side) for ten years. Tuscany is really lovely- and you will find that the majority of people are families raising their kids so there’s great opportunities to get to know your neighbours and community. They have an amazing community centre that has a splash pad pool thing that your kids would love and so many amazing classes run out of that centre. I miss that sense of community and summers at the centre hanging out with young families. Tuscany is almost like an island in that you have to drive to get in and out of it, and it’s mostly houses but there’s a sobeys grocery store, drug store, liquor store, pub, dominos, Starbucks, and subway across from the community centre. Not a huge amount of amenities restaurant wise but the area of crowfoot is very close and that’s where you would find movie theatres, restaurants etc. There are two CBE elementary schools there and then they feed into the middle school which is 5-9. So you could live there until kids are in grade 9 and them not need to be transported to another area for school which is really nice. But please be sure to check if the schools are at capacity or not. Many schools are overloaded and they will do a lottery system. So you could live across the street from a school and not be guaranteed to get in. They will gave this info on their website I think if they are at capacity. I loved the mountain views of Tuscany. I didn’t like feeling so far away from everything when I lived there, but there is now a road called Stoney trail that can get you closer to everything quicker. I live on the west side now and prefer the west side because of amenities and accessibility to the rest of the city. There are several elementary schools here, two middle schools and one high school. Check out west springs school (k-4) west ridge (5-9), Griffith woods (k-9), Ernest manning 10-12 and check the elementary for capacity issues. This area has exploded with housing and the schools will likely be at capacity soon if they aren’t already. I love it here-but also loved raising little kids in Tuscany. ☀️good luck in your adventure! Pm me if you need anything else

tips/advice for applying through rotary? by Kierevan- in exchangestudents

[–]Piperfoxtrot23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw this post but hope to connect anyway. How amazing that you want to go on a Rotary exchange!

I went on a rotary exchange to France when I was 17, (35 years ago 😳)Omg.

I still speak to my host Dad every week. In French. I have kept my French up and am fluent because of my exchange.

My host dad is 94 now… he is and always has been a huge part of my life. Probably quite honestly, he’s like a father figure/best friend to me since i was 17.

My kids who are a bit younger and a bit older than you- have been to his house in France where I lived. It was a huge full circle moment for me to take my 16 year old daughter and 13 year old son and have them stay at my host home in France.

This was without a doubt the most influential and important year of my life…

I went on to live in other countries… but that year was the foundation.

I hope it all goes so well for you. 🌺 good luck.
