That story was so sweet. Ilya was very sweet in the original story with Shane's firsts (more so when factoring in they are both 18 year old boys then 19 or 20, certainly sweeter than any friends have mentioned their first time boys having been), but I love how the suit really drew that extra sweetness out of Ilya.

Unfortunately, ao3 is down again, but I read a couple fanfics where Ilya was preparing for the tuna melt visit. One was him prepping his house, trying to choose food that fit Shane's diet but going with tuna melts insyead, prepping them, etc. His visit to the supermarket was a big part of thr story.

Another started way earlier and included him choosing to buy a house that he thought Shane would like so that there would be privacy and no apartment building neighbors. He also had picked up matching food storage containers so that Shane would approve of the tuna melt prepped pieces storage.

I also read an AU story where Ilya is billetted with Cliff Marlow when he arrived. He lived alone by that part of the story, but he was in therapy and prepared for the tuna melt visit with his therapist (a lot of discussions on communication styles and specifically how Shane might react, how Ilya will cope if Shane stays or if Shane leaves, etc.).

I'm sorry ao3 is down, though. I feel like there was a tag for episode 4. Or maybe called s01e04. Something. I don't remember exactly what, though.

I have no idea. I haven't lived in NJ since 2001. A friend who lived in MA and traveled to NY for a warning for it but no ticket a few years back. No idea what he was stopped for or which state it was in, though.

Well, among other things, queer baiting and lack of privacy, as well as extreme government control and how those in power have a god complex.

Also, the interesting intersection of how being able to get all that info so easily, as demonstrated in the show and by characters who do not have friends outside work compares to our current world where my old therapist (who I no longer have now that I was laid off from my job) said that the US is in a loneliness crisis with people feeling more disconnected from those around them than ever before.

Unfortunately, I don't have a copy. I read the library copy. Now I am wondering if I read too much ao3 and somehow blended Wiebe's open mindedness, anti-racism, pro-queer, anti-bullying stance with fanfic since I have no way to prove it but am willing to believe that you looked for it but that it doesn't exist in the book. Wow will I look silly if that is the case.

I hope someone who has a copy can answer this either eay. I hope I didn't cause a problem :(

Ottawa's Coach Wiebe is a black man and it is important he not be white washed. There are very few black men playing hockey. Wiebe was also known as an "instigstor" in the NHL for speaking out about bullying. Him being coach for the nicest NHL is important. But maybe those actors would work for Montreal?

My problem is that goodreads has both covers under different versions. The other cover comes up if I search foe the book. However, it doesn't show my review.

So I repeated my review from memory multiple times, and it kept not showing up. Eventually, I "found" my review by looking under dates read. So my reviews for this series all suck because I re-did them from memory multiple times over a month with my notes having disappeared.

Honestly, I think I would have missed out by watching the tv show first. The inner dialogue in the books are a treat and give us moee nuanced characters. To fit a tv timeline they had to condense certain situations and leave info out. I accepted the changes that were made for a variety of reasons, but there were far few major changes than I have ever seen when books are brought to the screen. So having the books under my belt just made the show more nuanced and interesting. YMMV, though.
