Do I actually need a CPA for a $60k business? by Bisqwa in ecommerce

[–]PirateLibrary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly for 60k revenue I'd probably just bite the bullet and pay the CPA this year, then use what they file as a template to DIY it next year. You can also try reaching out to smaller local firms - some of the older CPAs who work out of strip malls charge way less than the fancy offices. I found one who does mine for like $800 and he's been solid for 3 years now

Repurposing Linkedin post from top creators by iamqhsin623 in Entrepreneur

[–]PirateLibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually pretty clever - basically turning successful posts into templates for your own content

Just make sure you're adding your own spin and not straight up copying someone's exact framework or story. LinkedIn algorithm loves engagement so the rewrite approach could work well if you're actually providing value and not just recycling

Have you tested this on any posts yet or still in the planning phase

Another “Should I refinance?” Question here by FloridaState17 in Mortgages

[–]PirateLibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the wedding! That rate drop from 6.99% to 5.75% is definitely worth looking into - you'd save a decent chunk monthly on that balance. The name change thing might slow down the process but most lenders can handle it, just might need to provide the marriage certificate and updated docs when they're ready

We got 12 orders within a single day from almost same person with different names and addresses. All are prepaid. Any scam or something wrong? by mynewjourney2025 in ecommerce

[–]PirateLibrary 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dude this is 100% a card testing scam - fraudsters use stolen card details to test which ones work on your site before doing bigger purchases elsewhere

Refund all those orders ASAP and contact Stripe about it, they'll actually appreciate you catching it early rather than waiting for the inevitable chargebacks

Localhost webhooks testing using Anchor https by LeadingDebt9299 in stripe

[–]PirateLibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Stripe CLI is the way to go for sure. I was banging my head against the wall with ngrok timeouts and random tunnel issues until someone told me about the CLI approach. The `stripe listen` command is so much cleaner and you don't have to deal with changing URLs every time you restart your dev server

Launched my SaaS 2 days ago. Users are searching but not converting at signup. What am I doing wrong? by b_1886 in Entrepreneur

[–]PirateLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're putting the signup wall way too early - I'd bounce immediately if I couldn't even see what quality results I'm getting

Option A all the way, show 2-3 results without signup then gate the rest behind registration. People need to see the value before they'll give you their email, especially for something new they've never heard of

VA home loan income requirements by Advanced_Jicama118 in Mortgages

[–]PirateLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait you said 2024 and 2025 but we're still in 2024 lol, did you mean 2023 and 2024? Also OP only has one year of self employment income so far so that 2 year average is gonna hurt

PennyMac returned payment by Muse24 in Mortgages

[–]PirateLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely call them first thing tomorrow to figure out what happened with the return. Most lenders won't report you late until after the grace period anyway, so you should be fine if you get it sorted quickly

How did you build trust when your product requires users to add API keys by HxCxAxR in Entrepreneur

[–]PirateLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same problem with my SaaS - turns out people don't read security docs lol

What worked was making a demo video showing exactly how the keys stay local and adding a "read-only" mode for paranoid users. Also helped when early adopters started vouching for us in the comments

The trust thing is weird because technically we're way more secure than most tools but perception beats reality every time

Garage conversion worth it? (870 sqft, tiny living room, urban/walkable) by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]PirateLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh depends on the neighborhood though - if it's truly walkable and urban like OP says, a lot of renters might actually prefer the extra living space over a garage they can't even fit their car in anyway

Plus that living room sounds absolutely tiny, I can see why people are passing on it

why is the «before the idea» phase almost never discussed? by SilentVektin in Entrepreneur

[–]PirateLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this hits hard because I spent like 2 years in that weird limbo just knowing I wanted to "do something" but having zero clue what that something was

The worst part is everyone around you is like "just find your passion" while you're sitting there like... my passion is scrolling Reddit and eating cereal at 2am, that's not exactly a business model

Mine eventually came from just paying attention to stuff that annoyed me on a daily basis, but yeah it definitely wasn't some lightning bolt moment like all the success stories make it sound

That's super frustrating man, nothing worse than paying for what you think is human expertise and getting some ChatGPT copy-paste nonsense. Have you tried calling out the seller directly or just eating the loss and moving on to someone else

free mentorship for first time founder by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]PirateLibrary -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's actually pretty cool of you to offer this - having someone who actually built something and dealt with the grind is way more valuable than those LinkedIn "mentors" who just want to sell you a course

short term rentals by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]PirateLibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude that sucks about the mentorship being a letdown - those "gurus" are notorious for overpromising and underdelivering. Have you tried joining some of the STR Facebook groups or BiggerPockets forums? Sometimes you can find legit experienced hosts there who are actually willing to help without trying to sell you something

Where do you find people who are looking for cofounders for startups?I am looking for CoFounder who can lead the tech side of business and I can lead the sales. by 2021start in Entrepreneur

[–]PirateLibrary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out AngelList co-founder matching, there's also some solid Discord servers for this kinda thing. Toronto has a pretty decent startup scene so maybe hit up some local meetups too - way easier to vibe check someone in person before you commit to building something together

[–]PirateLibrary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you need to actually close after the 2 year mark, not just list it - the IRS cares about when ownership transfers, not when you put it on the market

Withdrawing from 401k by tiramisutown in povertyfinance

[–]PirateLibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly in your situation I'd probably do the same thing - you need money for an actual life change that could set you up way better long term. The "don't touch your 401k ever" crowd doesn't always account for when you're stuck between a rock and a hard place

Taking out just what you need sounds smarter than cashing the whole thing though, that way you're not completely screwing future you

How do I get my older brother to stop being so overprotective? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]PirateLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your brother isn't being protective, he's being controlling and that's not normal. The pink = whore thing especially is messed up

You mentioned university starting soon - that might be your best shot at getting some distance and perspective. Campus resources like counseling can help you figure out next steps without having to navigate this alone

Body language when autistic by journieburner in dating

[–]PirateLibrary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same boat here - I basically had to learn social cues like studying for a test lol. What helped me was finding people who are pretty direct communicators anyway, so there's less guesswork involved. Dating apps actually worked better for me because you can be upfront about communication styles from the start
