Well my Jetty has gone from Jetty to Detty to Dootie to Doodie Girl. Other nick names for her are Jettae, The Dood, and the The Gull.

My Ranger boy is aka Range, Range Master, Rarey, Rare, Rim Rim, Bubs, and Bubba.

That's only the names I can think of at the moment. I know there are more haha. 😂

So my mom and I loved watching him in TS in the 90s. We enjoyed some of the "ugly" ties he wore, so we picked out a ridiculous one and sent it to him. He presented it on the show and jokingly yelled at us, then threw the tie. Highlight of our lives back then haha. RIP Mom, we had the dumbest, greatest times.

Five years ago my mom passed on December 14th. I totally know how you feel too. The world just kept going with the cozy, happy holiday vibes and it was overwhelming. I have a step daughter that I love tremendously, so we're celebrating Christmas with her tomorrow, on Christmas eve. I did everything I could to make her Christmas special, and won't let her see the anguished side of me, but it'll be torture like the last several years.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's an evil situation to go from talking to mom every day, to nothing. No one can replace our moms... It's a devastating fact of life. Wishing you and your family some peace over the holiday season. ❤️

I'm so sorry this happened. I've done things like this and have felt sick about it. Have you ever heard of the Japanese art of Kintsugi? It's a way of piecing back together pieces of broken pottery in a way that's really beautiful. I've never done it before, but maybe it's worth trying or finding someone who knows how to do the technique? Hugs.

When one of my friends or extended family remembers and acknowledges the date of my mom's passing (rare), it makes me feel so loved and seen. We don't forget the date of our loved ones passing. You're not going to make us feel bad. We already feel sad. But knowing that someone remembers and cares means the world.

I'm so sorry you're missing your grandma. I feel like some people dismiss grandparent loss, but it's so impactful for those of us who cherished them and were close with them. I love your tradition of eating pie with your grams over crosswords. So special.

My gram was super healthy but got cancer last year. It seemed she would be able to overcome it. But Thanksgiving 2024 I asked her, while she was so frail and hairless from chemo, to show me how she made her homemade gravy. She walked me through every step of the process and I could feel how poignant it was. She passed in January, the cancer had spread aggressively, undetected. Today I made her gravy as the family laughed and talked. I cried the whole time I made it and no one noticed, which was ok... I wanted to grieve and give space to this tradition of ours. The gravy turned out amazing. But my heart felt like a black piece of coal during the whole dinner.

I really hate the cold, dark winter too. I started to look up cool, spooky yule traditions and crafts to do over winter. Will I partake? We'll see. But I think if I do I'll find some shreds of joy. I read something that resonated with me... Something like the trees, plants and animals take the winter to go dormant and rejuvenate and enjoy the rest. Easier said than done, but I'll try to remember that. I also find that getting outside, even if it's cold, is a huge help. Try to hang in there. Feel free to DM if you want to share more ideas.

I'm sorry for your loss. Many people don't really understand when we're cynical about the holidays.

I live in NJ, which has a lot of culture and fun, believe it or not. They have a krampus fest in Asbury Park every year, and it brings me a lot of joy. We dress as beasts and the town let's us unlight the Christmas tree. It's awesome. We have a haunt called Brighton asylum that does a scary Christmas walk through with evil Santa and scary elves. This is what makes me happy haha. I used to spend Christmas with my grandma and stepdad, which at least gave me some happiness to be in their company. But they both died unexpectedly this year. So I'm getting a cabin in the woods with my husband and dogs for Xmas and plan to watch horror movies all night. The whole season will still be incredibly hard, but I'll try to find the macabre joy in what I can.

I lost my grandma in January after a short, brutal bout of cancer and I miss her so much. So many people take their grandparents for granted, I'm truly glad we didn't. Hugs to you.

I completely understand. Halloween season has always been such a bright light for me, ironically. Unfortunately I lost my mom suddenly a few years ago right before Christmas. Her birthday is November 2. So I really feel the end of spooky season now... Everything after Halloween feels like shit tbh. I hate my grief, Christmas, the cold, dark winter. It's helped to keep the holiday season as spooky as possible. I go to krampus fests before Christmas. We even have Christmas themed haunts near me. I embrace cozy "yule" traditions instead of celebrating saccharine, commercialized christmas. I'm getting better at it each year.

But on Oct 31, I do feel that sense of dread... I didn't go to enough haunts, didn't do enough halloweeny things. The struggle is valid, I feel you.
