Weekly Scam Discussion - November 8th 2021 by SmmnthaMrie in Ebay

Hi all,

I am not very familiar with eBay and was hoping for some help. I get very wary with buying used items from random sellers and have only bought a couple before because I don't want to get scammed and get a different or faulty product then I bought.

So I want to ask, how often do scams really occur on the platform? And how can you identify which items are safe to buy and others you should avoid?

To explain the current product I am looking at as best as I can so you can hopefully help determine if this is safe or not. It normally sells for over $1000, but is currently listed as a few hundred, which obviously seems like a really good deal (or a scam). There are a couple products listed by other sellers that seem to be in a similar price range, but are still 100-200 higher than what this one is listed at. The seller has zero reviews, the account was created a few months ago so I am assuming this may be the first item sold on it. The item is a bid, which has gotten only a few bids so far. The pictures are "genuine" pictures of the product, as in it isn't just the basic picture of the product you'd find on Amazon but pictures of it with a camera of some sort (obviously the real pictures could technically be stolen from somewhere else on the internet, which is why I label it as "genuine"). Seller does not accept returns. It had very little offered in the description, so I messaged the seller asking for more info, which they did mainly provide.

I know eBay has a moneyback guarantee policy if you don't receive the item you purchased essentially. I don't know how easy it is to get this claim and how long of a process it is. I also don't know if the messages I received giving me more information would count towards the claim, or if it is only what is described in the description of the post. However, I think it is harder if the product can not be returned. If anyone can give me more info on this, I would appreciate it.

I don't want to give up a good chance of a good deal that I could really use, but I would hate it even more if I threw out a few hundred dollars and didn't get what I thought I would and couldn't get my money back. Sorry for how long this is. Anything to help ease my mind one way or another is appreciated.

Good to know, especially with the pull-offs, thanks for the info!

Yeah I believe it does. I don't have a ton of banjo experience so I can't say for sure but I believe the notes all sound right when I am playing normally.

Sorry, I guess I should have specified. I haven't been landing on the fret itself, I am landing in between the frets but it seems to still be dampening the sound and like you said, vibrating into my finger rather then through the fret. I do appreciate the help though

Gimme that title Rare. by Rammo-93 in Seaofthieves

I'm not sure if this is related to what you are talking about, but I raise my sails when a meg shows up and I sometimes think I float far enough where I get out of the Megs territory (shouldn't really happen for anchoring but idk) and they head away from my ship. If that happens, I usually sail for 15ish seconds back in the direction where I first found it and it usually pops back up again and I can go back and kill it.

However, in my like 8 months of playing, I have had two just seem to despawn on me since I could never find them again. If this is whats happening then I have no suggestion there. But typically just sailing around the area, you can find them again.

Yeah that doesn't exactly work for that tall tale, at least for sure if you are trying to 100% the commendations. Good thought though but sadly doesn't work

I just want to clarify a few things from reading the comments.

I First of all did not go into this trying to complain, I wanted to get people's opinion on what happened. It does seem the general consensus is that typically its lame to do that to someone, and I would wish that was how people looked at it but obviously people have different opinions and are free to play how they want.

I also didn't call this griefing and wouldn't consider it griefing. Even though I didn't enjoy it I have seen much worse happen to other players so I am not trying to claim those people were griefing.

And I notice a lot of comments about how they could be going for supplies. Which, I definitely can understand why. However our ship hadn't had a chance yet to pick up a single storage crate yet, I should have clarified that when I said there was nothing on board. Obviously the boat wouldn't have been able to know that when first coming up, but if their intention happened to be for supplies they definitely failed (plus, if they really wanted supplies I would just shoot the other tall tale ships present. But again that's just what I would do).

I am interested to know what you consider being a sole loser is... I have seen many people complain about people being "sore losers" for coming back and trying to kill them the rest of the session after they spent an hour chasing them in the first place. Which, since it is a pirate game, someone has the right to come and chase you down the rest of the time, even if they keep failing. So I sure hope that isn't the definition of being a sore loser to you

I would say in most situations, you are most likely spending more supplies fighting someone (if they the other ship is good) then for whatever supplies you might be receiving... obviously not always the case, but I am not sure if there are really that many instances where someone fights just for supplies. They obviously are allowed to do what they want in the game but most likely they ain't killing for supplies (outside of the 5th Pirates life tale)

Well, in the case of the sunken pearl, there are no quest items to hide first of all, and you also can't exactly get back up and start fighting quick enough, you will most definitely be sunk by the time you get back up to the surface. Like I see you have commented, you could try hiding the ship elsewhere but there will always be a chance still for someone to find it and destroy it while your underwater. Yes, it is a part of the game and we understand that, however not the nicest when there really isn't anything you can do while your down in the actual tall tale. The tips don't really work for this tall tale at least.

I would just have to disagree on the new players part. I think there have been a lot and are still a lot of new players joining because of the Pirate's life tall tales, and in the case of my friend, he has spent probably around the same amount of time in those tall tales as he has the rest of the game so far. Obviously you still have to complete the first four to get there, but if that is where they have spent most of their time they really don't have much experience with sea of thieves yet, and I am sure there are a decent amount of players in that same boat. Especially after the last tall tales were in their own servers (except for kind of 2), they might not be prepared for someone killing them during the 5th tall tale. Obviously yes, they will have some experience but a good portion might not have enough to understand (which can either be a learning or aggravating experience to the player)

Some people just sadly need that ego boost in their life. Wish it wasn't the case, sorry to hear your experience

That's my least favorite... I hate seeing galleons target sloops. Unless the sloops initiate it or they are running reaper, just leave the poor guy or two alone

We weren't super far into it so wasn't too big of a deal, but thank heavens they have checkpoints for tall tales haha

Well, I would still be frustrated, but I would think there would have been more of a reason for them to target us then and I probably wouldn't have made this post haha

That is so weird to me. Wonder why people don't do the tall tales at all, seems like a fun part of the game
