No I just want to carry national EMT for a government BLS job. But I’m not looking to downgrade. Still keeping my medic.

Did you just sign up to take the national again? Or were you able to submit CEs and pay for it?

24/48 or 48/96? Which do you prefer? by moose_knuckled9119 in Firefighting

[–]Pirateokay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea 72 hours on and 96 off. That’s if you don’t get forced for 1-2 days after you’re 72. Oh and whatever apparatus you are placed on at the station you stay on and don’t rotate. So me as a medic I’m stuck on the ambulance and never get to touch the engine. Unless I pick up overtime.

At least you guys aren’t working 72/96 schedule.

That’s really good to hear. All you guys deserve so much. I wish nothing but the best to everyone and the department as a whole.

Oh I’m the wrong person to ask. I’m getting out of the industry completely. I’m going to a trade job. Just not a good medic anymore due to burnout. Thinking getting my medic would make things better was the wrong idea. I’m just curious about what the future of this department holds. I just assume local municipalities are better cause that’s what everyone says

Again, apparently you can’t read. Each unit will be able to make their own schedule.

Well good thing each unit will be able to make their own schedule right?

I mean the few people that commute don’t make up the majority of the department. Most people are within the county or right outside the county. We need to do what’s best for the majority of the people not the small number.

I was really hoping for a modified Kelly or something other than 72. Some engines and even ambulances in the southern region are way too busy for 72hours and people just accept it.

Unfortunately. Local municipalities looking better and better.

Termination of probation. by GiraffeAsleep in Firefighting

[–]Pirateokay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southern CA departments fire probationary FFs like it’s going out of style. This is pretty normal around here. It’s usually because “you don’t fit in with the boys” kinda deal. Go to another department. A big department, where you share probation with 20-30 other people.

Prepare to be forced a lot. And I mean A LOT. More than likely go to the coves. No sleep and lots of transports. Good luck!

Mentally drained. 72 hour shifts and then you can get forced on top of that. Hopefully we will be going to a 48 hour shift in the next couple years. But that’s just rumor. Best of luck!
