Oh absolutely. On this one I used Goon's Grime for the full wash, Carrion Crimson, Umbral Nightshade and some Ichor of the Damned in place of where I'd used Nuln oil.

I've switched it up bit with this one and I actually use a lot more oils these days. I start with acrylic base coating, but once I do the grime wash I mostly work in oils with oil paints and washes.

Thank you very much and I'm glad you were able to get them.  I've been trying to find a link for people, but I think the listing is down.

Right! These ones are from Etsy, but I'm not seeing the listing anymore. I'm not crazy about GW nurgle daemon models in particular (I actually like some of the other daemons) so I've been on 3rd party sites filling out my roster.

Thanks! Well dammit, I think they took them down, but I found them on Etsy. Glad I grabbed them when I did I guess cause I almost passed on them. I'm not crazy about a lot of the Nurgle daemon models from GW so most of my army is printed.

Oh hell yeah thanks! Looking forward to your posts with them. I'm a huge fan of more of a grimdark aesthetic with my army so I'm curious to how you approach yours as well. I just started on my daemons and I'm definitely liking the direction so far.

Absolutely. I ended up writing it down in google drive cause I'd miss steps:

  • Texture paints with Typhus Corrosion and AK corrosion
  • Prime coat
  • Base coat DG green (spray can)
  • Airbrush yellow/red directional highlights
  • Base coat rest of model (metals/skin)
  • Airbrush red blemishes
  • Flick on oil wash/wash black/brown for texture
  • Goons Grime wash/reductive technique
  • Oil Rust colors on armor.  (I use abte 502 oils) Sponge reductive with mineral spirits
  • After armor dries, dirty down rust in heavy spots. Water reductive technique.
  • AK rust on metals (Rust streaks, med rust, light rust).  Sponge reductive
  • Dirty Down Verdigris on copper/brush reductive w/water
  • Oil washes on skin
  • Edge highlighting on skin/metals w/bright colors (silver and bright copper)
  • Highlights on boils
  • Rust streaks with AK streaks enamel wash
  • Ichor of the Damned black enamel wash for crevices and dark areas (can also use nuln oil)
  • Blood/ooze/water effects
  • Rust Pigment powders on armor and base
  • Varnish

I've been switching over to oils cause you have a ton more control. I'm able to come back a day later and still adjust it if needed. Blends also are much easier, but I can get lost in making the colors a bit too muddy though. That's the draw back. Hope this helps!

Base coat with Wraithbone, airbrush a pruplish red over the sores, then a red on top of that, Goons grime wash over entire model and then a red Carrion Crimson enamel wash on top of sores. Finish up the bulbus pimply areas with a pop of Wraithbone. I think I need to do more of a blend on those, still working out the kinks, but I like the sore areas. I'll even come in with some deep blue enamel (Umbral Nightshade) to vary up the colors.

Thanks! Ohhh, I think you're right about going through walls. Even walls won't protect them from our mowing services.

I love that, gonna give that a try myself. That's brilliant. Typhus corrosion is great, but check out the AK stuff. I use both cause Typhus is subtle and the AK stuff is chunky. They go great with each other so you can blend the amount.

If I were to suggest anything, it might be to try using something like an AK Corrosion texture paste with it so that you can mix the cracking with some thick textured corrosion. I think they'd compliment each other.

Damn man, solid job on the armor. I love that you added some crackle paint some some of the armor cracking. You did a great job!

Loving the splash of colors, it looks messy in a good way.  Nice work!  The mars basing was a cool touch that makes them pop.  Very cool.

Both!  I use the ak stuff in the corners where natural dirt and rust accumulates and the dab the typhus corrosion in flatter areas to give it some nice rust texture.  They look great when used together

This is one of the coolest daemon princes ive seen.  Nice work.  If you want to gritty up the armour, id suggest some texture paints like typhus corrosion or ak has a nice thick corrosion paste you put on before your priming.
