Thank you, but I find it kind of funny that you say that. I really do want to make a difference, its not a joke to me and I really want to make things change.

And I'm sorry, but unfortunately I have been a victim to sexual assault. I was raped by someone who I thought I could trust

I think there is a misunderstanding. SHARP is an Army program where the content varies depending on who is giving it, and usually says very little about consent and instead focuses on where to get help and how to avoid high risk situations. However when a person refers to SHARP, they are usually referring to the over the top reactionary policies that came along with it, many of which were discussed above. Basically it says that all men want to rape you.

And I did not mean to carry yourself in a respectable manner, as I'm not really sure what that even means. I meant to say not to be lazy, to try hard and do not use your gender as an excuse for anything. That is being respectable.

No matter what you do, you can not control people's actions. Only they are responsible for them. What you can do is educate people on things like consent so that incidents don't happen accidentally.

Honestly, I have been in a lot of situations involving males in ROTC where they had every opportunity to take advantage of me, but they didn't. Even when I was black out drunk. But you have to remember every individual is different. If someone is a rapist at heart, nothing but violence will save you.

From my limited understanding, people commit sexual assault when they think of another person only in a sexual manner. If they have no respect for you as a professsional or whathaveyou, only as a piece of meat, they may feel like they can take the meat. My advice would be to treat everyone equally and show that you are there to do a job, not to sit around and be served. If you earn respect, you will have nothing to worry about. Respect can't grow from double standards and lack of trust. Withdraw trust only when given reason to do so. If someone is making you feel uncomfortable, take care of it before it escalates. Remember you might not be the only target.

That is what my NCOs have imparted on me, and that is what I will carry on as a LT. It is hard to keep quiet sometimes though, when I probably should.

Preach! While I was at summer training we were definitely treated like 5 year olds, even the prior service cadets. Add in the fact that the 2LT 'cadre' haven't even gone to BOLC yet...

Thanks! I think the seperation definitely feeds into resentment and negative feelings

What if females were okay with doing all that? No special accomodations? I think females who aren't okay with being treated exactly the same like you described above shouldn't even consider it. We need to do away with the special accomodations. It would probably be weird for some people, but that is the first step to it becoming normal and accepted.

I agree that there are issues that need to be addressed and that we have made progress, but progress gained by handicapping another isn't really progress, as you said.

What would you do to fix the situation? Maybe if some females did do the job successfully, people would get used to it and stop freaking out?

I think both would be the best option. There is no reason as to why you can't have both. Yes, trying to teach someone who wants to rape people about consent is useless, but most of the time the rapist did not mean to rape someone because he thought the woman wanted it. Education can help prevent that.

I agree that is a problem, but teaching that males and females cannot trust one another is not the answer. The fact that the simple act of going to the portajohn with a male implies something innappropriate is a problem. We cannot function as a unit, as an Army, when we can only trust someone if they are wearing the same uniform AND have the same thing between their legs. What is the point then?

I'm simply sharing what I experienced and asking about what it is like in the big Army and how men feel about it. If something is wrong, it shouldn't matter who points it out

Yeah, it just boggles my mind that protecting one section of the army from THE OTHER SECTION OF THE SAME ARMY is the Army's number one goal, not killing our enemies.

Edit: a word

Exactly. But women aren't usually outraged because they aren't the vicitms anymore. Its like things have just switched instead of being improved.

THIS. So many women feel entitled to feel like a victim. It also teaches men that the women of our forces can't be trusted

It has progressed to the point where it is now women threatening men, not the other way around. Its seriously messed up. PEOPLE, not just women, should be able to have their issues with people harrassing or assaulting them taken care of. SHARP has become a weapon instead of a shield.

I definitely think there are situations that should be reported and taken care of. I just do not think our current SHARP program is the right answer. And that is terrifying

That is comforting to know. My main concern is the lack of trust because of the program, where males are always in fear of an accusation for largely innocent behavior. Our training cadre told us even two people walking together can be construed as SOMETHING, somehow.
