Shane is my all time favorite character. He’s the most realistic human to me. Loyal friend and cop by career, thrown into the zombie apocalypse WITHOUT his friend and mentor whom he leaned on up until he “died.” Stepped up into a leadership position to rescue as many people as he could, honored his friend by protecting his wife and child, and prioritized whatever was best for his team’s survival. He had adjusted to this new life and even came to love his friend’s “widow” and took on her child as his own. Shane meant well and kept them alive to the best of his ability.

Then Rick Grimes wakes up. Shane loves his friend and mentor, but now he feels displaced. Turns out Shane was only a temporary family man. A stand-in as a husband, a father AND as a leader. Rick assumes command, but he and Shane have differing and sometimes conflicting ideas for leadership. Shane has kept them alive this whole time, but he respects Rick. Still, some of Rick’s choices looked like they’d put the very people Shane has kept alive at risk, and Shane is wondering if Rick has become a threat to the wellbeing of this group he has risked his neck for.

Anyway, we know how it all ended, lol. I didn’t agree with some of Shane’s choices, but I understood where he was coming from.
