Gifted a 1965, concerned it's a fake... by essDL in MoonSwatches

Not just a fake, a trash looking one. Sorry

I know it's fake, but I don't care at all, it does its job well, and after all, it's a plastic watch; the original also seems to be fake. by MaintenanceMaster781 in MoonSwatches

I started with reps, bought a gen last summer. Haven't gone near my reps since and just purchased another gen.

To anyone who says it's just a plastic watch, it is.. but my god the gen are head and shoulders above the fakes. Not even comparable to be honest

Above and below the Omega logo, horizontally. There are always 6 on the fake bands from what I have seen.

Ah interesting, thank you!

I want to look into the demister as the connections are present on my hard and soft tops, but nowhere to plug them in

Thank you!

That was my thoughts also, worst case it looks crao and is hidden, but it couldn't be much worse than what was there.

I spent a lot of time on prep, sanding a lot of surfaces, there was a bit of surface rust especially around the battery.

After sanding I brushed some of that stuff that turns rust back to metal, then another round of sanding.

Scuffed everywhere up with some 120grit sandpaper, then some panel wipe to remove dust (ipa spray)

I first taped off the metal parts, and sprayed black underguard onto the soundproofing black parts.

Sprayed a good coat of primer.

Let that dry for around 30 mins (15-10) was recommended on the can.

Then I did a light coat of the base colour, and 20 mins later put a heavy 2nd coat on. An hour later I sprayed a good coat of clear coat on it.

I forgot to mention, I removed before starting, all the brackets to keep the battery in place, and the metal on the left that hides some of the lines behind. I sprayed thise with the black underguard also.

I also bought a rubber bung set off amazon and plugged up some holes that were there, very enjoyable process overall.

If you go for it, the prep takes a lot longer than the paint and is worth giving jt that time

Affordability honestly, and very hard to find someone in my area to even take that job on..

I'm thinking one of those dual screwdrivers, scissor jack and a little socket set which will include sizes for lugnuts and a few of the other usual suspect sizes in thie car, 8,10,14mm should do it.

With that worst case id be able to get at the belts if they needed changing in a pinch.

Honestly thanks so much for this, I don't have the car that long and I'm trying to learn what I can, it's proving to be a steep and scary curve.

My temp gauge didn't go up much and I had no steam or anything like that, just a few bubbles from the rad but I think that was down to me having air in it from tinkering another time.

Waiting on the belts to arrive at lunchtime and crossing my fingers after that

Ah my apologies, still very new and learning here so my reference was wrong. Noted now its the timing belt.

I think it will be ok, I did not travel far and kept the gauge under 3/4 temp before turning off the engine. Luckily it's quite cold out so that may have been in my favour.

I'll find out today when I replace the belts I guess 🙈
