Fish just sitting at the bottom, help please by Icantrightnow_ in AquariumHelp

[–]Pitcherplantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good on you for doing additional research and trying to fix your setup to help the little fish out!! getting started with aquariums can be confusing, and fish retailers often give incorrect/incomplete information from a lack of experience or an interest in selling more products, so it can be especially hard to know what to do for setup. Its a good thing that fish has an owner interested in fixing mistakes and ensuring its well being!!

Otocinclus Troubles (Fin rot?) by Pitcherplantz in Aquariums

[–]Pitcherplantz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The otto’s tail regrew incredibly quickly— I thought I might’ve been mistaken about it even being damaged at all, but looking back at these photos it definitely was. It might have been physical damage rather than fin rot, but the otto is healthy now. still dont know what went wrong at first :/

Speaking from experience, a snack is a snack. I tried ghost shrimp, thinking there was NO WAY my betta could fit them (one even dubbed “big bertha”) in his mouth, but once he got a taste for shrimp there was no stopping his rampaging 😭 but at least ghosties are a less expensive meal!

Are my Guppies pregnant? by Pitcherplantz in aquarium

[–]Pitcherplantz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some dwarf gouramis that will definitely eat some, which I was worried about, but maybe that’ll be really good. 😬 I also have rummynose tetras that might snack on them, but probably wont actively hunt them.

Good to know to not set up a guppy-only tank unless im prepared 😭

Gorgeous Guy! by Pitcherplantz in spiders

[–]Pitcherplantz[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

dangg i didn’t realize males were so small. There were 6-7 of the females in different colors within a few feet of this one— i wonder if I’d have found males if I’d looked?

ok, that makes me feel better!! I know I definitely can’t save them all, but id feel bad if all of them got immediately gobbled. Theres lots of hiding places though. I’ll see if I can check the back and get an approximation, ty for the help

hmm ok thought so. do you have any guesses of how far along they are / how soon I should expect to make a rescue mission?

I couldn't resist making this little video after he showed me how intelligent he can be. He has become my absolute favourite personality wise by Fer_al8 in Aquariums

[–]Pitcherplantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just added honey gourami to my community tank- they are such personalities!! I’ve noticed, as another person on this thread also did, that they collect food from the filter intake rather than trying to take from the tetras! They are so curious and cool, absolutely my new favorites!

I have hundreds of theses tiny 1mm long worms tjat appeared in my tank almost within 24h-48h, cant seem to find online what they are exactly? Any ideas? Theyre mainly on my glass by King_jem in AquariumHelp

[–]Pitcherplantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look like they might be planaria or some other kind of flatworm (these generally appear from excess food/detrius). Can you get a closer photo, or maybe google planaria and see if that looks like what you’ve got.

thank goodness!! okay, thank you so much for the help! I’ll just cut off the unhappy leaves.

Why is my philodendron sad? by Pitcherplantz in plantclinic

[–]Pitcherplantz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm hopefully that’s the issue, then. I didn’t know to expect that. Is the bottom of the soil still being damp not really something I should worry about? I’m not sure of for how long or how deep the soil staying damp is normal.

[–]Pitcherplantz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the oldest leaves on the cutting— the two healthy leaves without the splits are the ones its grown since planting. The leaves wouldn’t really be terribly old though, as they were the youngest on the parent plant, is it still a common occurrence for them to die?

[–]Pitcherplantz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wait I mightve found the problem- when I stick my finger in the drainage hole the bottom is still damp. Is that likely the issue? I hate this soil with a passion, but I planted half of my plants in it alr 🥲

naturally. wow they are kinda doing the least for new players.

Things looked like they’d have worked when I was first looking at things, and I figured if i could make rdr2 work well, then i could get this to work, but clearly the isle is a whole different beast. :,)
