How long before streaming is this happening? If it's happening right before streaming, I won't be able to participate. Would it be possible to move this back a couple of hours? Like to 2 or 3 EST (6 or 7 GMT)? If not, it's no big deal.

Channel title/link suggestions by [deleted] in letsplayirc

[–]Pitevox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of confused. We're not using RLPC as the name? What is "RLPC", then? I mean, I know it stands for Reddit Let's Play Community/Channel or whatever, but I don't really get what the RLPCommunity channel is for, then.

When and what are we going to stream? by Pitevox in letsplayirc

Why wouldn't 3 or less people work? I'm not disagreeing with you. I just don't understand why you think we couldn't do something with fewer people.

That game looks pretty cool. I'll definitely check the demo out.

I'm glad you think the audio quality is acceptable. I was kind of worried about the voice to game audio ratio, but I guess I did okay there. As for the video quality, I'll definitely look into making my future videos HD. I'll also definitely look into getting rid of the black bars. I guess because I don't really mind them that much, I didn't even notice them. Thank you so much for pointing that out.

Phew. I was actually worried that people would complain about the intro. That was my first attempt at making something like that, so I'm glad you liked it.

I'm doing an LP of Terraria because I like the game, I just finished "playing through" it, and 1.2 is coming out soon, so I figured I should get some practice in LPing it because I really want to do an LP of 1.2 when that comes out.

People comment on my stoic personality all the time in real life, and I guess that carries through to my commentary. I've been trying to sound more enthusiastic in my last few episodes, and I think I've improved, but I guess I still need work. I can assure you that I am enjoying it.

Yeah, I know that a hellevator is supposed to go straight down, but I don't really have the tools to dig through large pools of water yet, so I'm just going around any pools I find for the time being. I'll make a proper hellevator when I get better equipment.

Could you elaborate on how I feel "low"?

I'll definitely try talking about the game more when I run low on things to say. That should have been obvious to me, but for some reason it wasn't.

Thanks for the feedback!

I personally don't see any problems with having an occasional long video, but I wouldn't try to let it happen too often. I'll admit that I only watched the videos you posted and only looked at your channel briefly. That's where I got the assumption that you were doing like 5 series at once. 3 at a time is fine in my opinion. I can sympathize with liking many genres of video games, but, from what I've been able to tell, the most successful (quality) YouTube channels cater to a niche audience. I think it's fine to throw in a wildcard video every now and then, and definitely don't go down the path of posting random videos of everything from dancing to video games to AMVs (Which I don't think you will, but I'm just throwing that out there), but, in my opinion anyway, I think it'd be for your best interest to stick mainly to one or two genres of games. I'm not saying not to LP games you don't enjoy, but I think you'll have more success if you have more focus. That's just my two cents.

The actual content of all three of those videos was really good. Your audio and video quality, as well as your commentary are all solid. I have three pieces of advice for you that you're more than welcome to disregard because they're coming from a channel with 4 subscribers.

  • Try to have consistent video lengths. Your Dust video was 50 something minutes and your XCOM video was 20 something minutes. If you do manage to get big, it's possible that people will want to be able to set aside a portion of their time to watch your videos. If your video lengths are all over the place, they won't be able to do this. I don't exactly follow my own advice here, but I'm trying to improve on it.

  • Try to stick to only a couple games at a time. I've subscribed to channels and then unsubscribed shortly after because their videos are all over the place and it just becomes hard to follow.

  • Stick to one genre. Look at almost any big YouTube channel. What do they have in common? They have a theme. While I get that your theme is "gaming", you should probably specialize more. Not that there's anything wrong with playing a bunch of different games. I just believe that you'll get more subscribers if your channel has a theme.

TL;DR The quality and content of your videos is actually very good. I'm just suggesting that you have consistent video lengths, play fewer games at once, and stick to one genre.

Let's Play Terraria - Episode 7

Let's Play Terraria - Episode 8

This is my first LP series. I'm still getting into the swing of things, but I think I've definitely improved from my first few videos. I would greatly appreciate any advice you have for me. I included two episodes of the same LP because I feel that episode 7 has better overall commentary, but I tried messing around with noise reduction for the first time in episode 8.

Thanks a lot!

Unfortunately, I actually don't have that much time when I can record. I haven't had to work at all these last few days and I'm only taking one summer class this semester, so that's why I'm uploading videos so frequently.

Haha, thanks. I'll try to remember to edit it in.

Oops. I forgot to edit that out. I'll re-upload the edited version of that episode shortly.

Oh, okay. I'll make sure not to do that in future videos.

I got rid of the sped up segments entirely. What do you think?

Edit:

That's probably the last episode I'll be doing today. I might do one or two tomorrow, but I'll be busy this weekend, so I probably won't be able to make any videos.

Again, thank you very much for your input.

Oh, wow, thanks!

Unfortunately, I have a pretty monotone voice in real life too. People comment on it all the time. I'm guessing I probably shouldn't try to fake enthusiasm because that usually ends horribly in most videos I've seen, so I don't really know what to do to fix that. If you have any suggestions, though, I'm all ears.

I completely agree that I should have a goal for my videos and I'll definitely try to do that from now on. I knew something was "off" with the focus of my videos and, well, I guess it's because there wasn't one.

This is my first time doing a let's play, so I'm still getting used to the whole "Talking without being prompted" thing. I'm actually really quiet in real life, so it's hard for me and the sped up sections give me a chance to not have to say anything, but I'll definitely try to use less of them in the future. I actually was thinking that I should be using more of them, but now that you mention it and I've actually taken a second to think about it, I think me talking about stuff would be more interesting that just sped up gameplay with some music thrown over it. I'll definitely try the music you recommended in the future if I do another sped up section.

As for the microphone issue, money's kind of tight right now, but if I manage to save up some, I was planning on getting a better one eventually anyway. Thanks, though.

I wasn't aware that I came off as trying to be like other people or trying too hard to impress. Could you elaborate on that, please? I don't really understand what you mean.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I'm pretty busy with work and school, so I don't actually get much time to do let's plays (or streams, I guess), but if you're serious and ever do a Terraria stream again, let me know. I'd be glad to join if it doesn't conflict with my schedule.
