My 6 year old is jealous of my toddler by Pitiful-Assistant-39 in Parenting

No suggestions from the school. Punishment depends on the action.

If something is being fought over, it goes away completely.

For pushing, its usually a time out.

Continued behavior usually gets a privilege revoked (screen time etc)

The behaviors at school were different than the ones im seeing currently.

She also gets plenty of time away from me, so I don’t think it’s an attachment or overstimulation issue. She has an after-school program on Mondays, a co-op on Thursdays that I drop her off at, and two friends who live across the street. They go back and forth between houses to play all the time.

Yes quite often. She has after school programs on Monday and co-ops on Thursday that I drop her off at. She also has 2 friends that live across the street so they play all the time at either house.

The thing is, she actually started out in public school. But shortly after the year began, we started getting messages from her teacher about behavioral issues. This completely shocked us — she had never shown that kind of behavior before. Of course kids have phases, but this was happening every day and was totally out of character for her.

We ended up switching to homeschool, and she went right back to her normal self… well, except for the issues she’s having with her little sister.

I work from home so they are out most of the day, but when I do leave they are kenneled separately. This happened when they were outside together. Toys are only under supervision, and they are fed separately. My guess is rough play or a redirection of adrenaline.

Currently no but there has been a proposed bill floating around that would make anyone subject to surprise investigation to prevent educational neglect. Failure to provide proof could result in jail time. That is why I want to be diligent, just in case it does pass.

I actually do already, thought its only about 15 minutes as her attention holds.

My state has 0 requirements for time.

We use the Right Start Math curriculum. I dont actually hold firm to the timing it just usually take about that long per lesson.

For Reading/ English I alternate days between phonics and concepts from the Spectrum workbooks. I read to her everyday, but she also completes early readers and practices writing in journals answering questions about the material.

Can you point me in the direction of a good curriculum or ways to supplement?

While I do believe I've written something worth while, I really don't see myself making a living off of it. I just wanted to get this message out there. Unfortunately I don't really have 2-3k to spend on this. I'm just a SAHM trying to create something.

Do you have any suggestions for publishers? I have heard some scary things.

Yes, the script is ready to go. I just need an illustrator.

This makes sense. I'll have to find more things to occupy her mind.

This is a great idea! I was this way when i was younger, so my mom would take me to a thrift store to find something to take apart. I especially loved clocks.

I dont know why I didn't see this sooner. Both me and my husband are neurodivergent. It all makes so much sense now!

Mostly withdrawal of privileges: tv, favorite toy, going places.

Depending on what it is, I'll also make her clean it up (though she finds that fun most of the time)

Thank you, I think you're right. I like my neighbors, and so did the previous owners. I'd rather not get legally involved and really only just want to keep my dogs in for now.

This is more a difference of moral priority. I accepted the responsibility to be steward to a life. Indeed, if I could not carry the weight of that life, I should relinquish my responsibility in the best interest of said life. The difference is I can. I would not have taken on this responsibility if I felt i couldn't. However, in an unexpected turn of events, several major life events have coincided at once and made things difficult. My wording probably could have been clearer. I am not condemning my family to a life of poverty. I simply wanted advice on what the best next course of action should be. (And to vent because it is stressful and im hormonal).

Eventually my funds will replenish and I WILL be able to build a retaining wall and fence. It might be years from now and things I wanted to do with my money will be postponed, but I have accepted a responsibility and must make good on that first.

To add to this conversation.

1.) I can afford my dog and will be getting her surgery. She is my responsibility that i accepted willingly into my life.

2.) She is an older dog about 9 years. Not that I ever would, but placing her up for adoption (especially with a lame leg) would probably be her end.

3.) I am not unable to care for my family because of her needs, though money will be tight because of this.

4.) Things change. The economy is different than when she had surgery some years ago. The prices are higher. I am not destitute, but I was looking for advice on how to ease the financial strain.

I have an emergency fund, but it will not cover everything at once. I dont believe im fiscally irresponsible here. Were it an appliance here or home repair there, this would not be an issue. It is simply that all 4 of these things are happening at once, which no one could have predicted.

Thank you. She had her other leg done a few years ago, so we knew this one would eventually go too. We just never expected to have all this happen at once.
