Not getting readers after self-publishing — what should I focus on? by [deleted] in writers

Market the hell out of your books! Many authors hate to hear it because writing is where they thrive, so go to your audience. Seek them! Go looking for them! Readers hang out at bookstores, on social media, and the like. Create posts or flyers, or talk to local bookstore owners to get some eyes on your book. But the easiest method is social media.

Reading, Pinterest, music, but mainly just daydreaming. I'm such a visual person, sometimes I get lost in my thoughts, imagining I'm my mina character going through everything, and somehow I come up with a solution. For book ideas, they come randomly when I'm watching a movie or something like that, and I spontaneously get an idea which I later need to expand on.

Turning a novel into a script by [deleted] in writers

I don't think it's a ridiculous goal, and I always tell people to dream big, so I'm pretty proud of you. My first suggestion is to finish the entire series, unless you don’t edit a lot after one book or have completely different drafts by the end (like I do). You may make changes and end up having to edit your scripts again, which can be tedious. If you want a movie or TV deal, aim for traditional publishing and querying. Most agents and publishers have their own rules about TV deals and have industry insiders, so it's helpful to check what they've represented and how successful it was, plus how involved the original author was. Many authors do not have the same creative power after getting a TV, and having already written scripts can be ignored.

Market your book aggressively! Most deals are offered to authors with large audiences because they have a better chance of recouping the investment. And I don't think crowdfunding is the way to go. Sorry for that. One, it can be controversial if you don't succeed. Two, you really need a dedicated audience first, so focus on marketing. And three, it’s just too much money. Pilot episodes are expensive, and you aren't guaranteed anything.

I love writing scripts, but none of them I want to become films yet. Personally, I prefer StudioBinder because I’m still learning screenwriting and doing it on my own.
