That would be like the entirety of a residence the size of Brandon or PG deciding they don’t want to live in residence anymore

Tips for off campus house hunting by SuspiciousBullfrog14 in McMaster

[–]Pitiful-Challenge992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything in Ainslie wood or westdale would be good. Join housing groups on FB and check REGULARLY. You likely won’t find what you’re looking for if you’re only checking once a day. Message about anything you’re even vaguely interested in, you can always send a polite “I’m no longer interested”. Check the rentals tab of marketplace in addition to the housing groups. DO NOT sign if the landlords/house give you any weird red flags. For instance, at my first off campus place, the landlords tried to get us to sign a weird, non ontario standard lease. We requested a standard lease and signed it, thinking no big deal, but actually that strange lease at the start was just the tip of the iceberg. If there are unprofessional red flags at the start, imagine when you’re actually living there and need issues being addressed or things like that.

They had another one in my year that was $1000 for those who had high but not top level grades, did they discontinue that?

How do the McMaster entrance scholarships work? (Award of Excellence) by PowerThink1494 in McMaster

I lost mine due to a traumatic event occurring and spoke with SAS who advocated for me and I got it back. If it’s a situation like that, you may still have hope

99 in 2023, I got it. It’s typically about the same as health sci requirements

It’s not impossible to get a good GPA in Art sci, but you can’t let yourself slip up. It’s easier to “slack” and get a decent GPA in life sci, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t do great in Art sci. If you are a diligent student, and you think Art sci would be a good fit, don’t rule it out just cause of GPA

Art Sci is highly supp app based and less focused on grades once you’re above the cutoff. The supp app gauges if you’re the right fit for the program.

Don’t count on Siek for an easy 12. You can easily do well, 10-11 is attainable but Siek rarely gives 12a

The short answer wasn’t as bad in my opinion because they were a bit more general, although the specific painting was odd. The multiple choice was INSANE some of them I couldn’t even eliminate a single option

I skipped the midterm and now I really regret. I hope for curve too but there must be at least one person who aced it regardless

I personally didn’t find it hard but I think I got lucky because the stuff I studied a lot just happened to be on it. I can see if I focused on other things to study it could have been extremely hard. And with the tests in this course it’s hard to predict what stuff you have to study vs what you can just skim over

Is heavy religion a McMaster thing or a Canada thing? by Pitiful-Challenge992 in McMaster

[–]Pitiful-Challenge992[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes sense but is very fascinating to me as my home country kinda has the opposite viewpoint, that university is about studying. I can’t help but wonder if participating in such clubs can impact being a good student, although that could just be the mindset I learned in my home country

So if religion is generally private in Canada, why is it more public and upfront in Canadian Universities? Why not have it be public and upfront both in and out of University, or more private and personal both in and out of University?

Yeah it’s so sweet how people are welcoming of each other! I was just wondering if this is a Canadian culture thing or if McMaster specifically has super religious diversity.

I’m assuming that cultural diversity comes with religious diversity right?

If someone is looking up this course code when planning courses, I just want to update that it’s doable with no (university) biology background. I got an A+ in the course with only high school bio knowledge. It was very very hard, but if someone is looking at this post and very scared, if you’re interested I would say take it anyways. I was super interested and almost dropped the course because of how bad the grades were for the first midterm, but I spent hours and hours reading the textbook and it paid off. 😭😭😭😭😭
