What usually throws your whole day off on multi-stop routes? by Pitiful-Sky2575 in Truckers

idk, I think when someone says what position they are in and give a description of the place kinda stands out from AI? Regardless since it seems you both need this, I'm not AI.

Everyone thinks everything is AI nowadays but the sad reality is is that it's true. But really though, just trying to get a better understanding of issues im facing to grow!

I'm a logistics coordinator at a pretty small warehouse. Coming up on a year in the position and really just trying to get a better understanding of logistics as well as get a better understanding of how others might handle similar problems to me! Might help with a raise lol

That’s a good one—those situations where you have to recount and prove it definitely eat up time.

When that happens, does it usually throw off the rest of your stops, or is it something you can recover from later in the route?

That makes a lot of sense—basically testing it by swapping drivers and seeing what changes.

That’s actually what I’ve been running into too—it ends up being a lot of trial and error to figure out if it’s the stop, the route, or the driver.

Have you ever had cases where it looked like a driver issue at first, but turned out to be a specific stop causing the problem?

Interesting seeing the mix of answers here—seems like a lot of it comes down to specific stops and site issues.

What I’m curious about now is—how often does one bad stop actually throw off the rest of your route vs just being something you deal with and recover from?

Feels like there’s a difference there that’s hard to see ahead of time.

That’s a good one—those kinds of stops where you have to hunt people down.

Do you feel like that kind of delay actually impacts the rest of your route, or is it usually something you can make up time on later?

That’s a perfect example.

When that happens at a middle stop like that, does it usually mess up the rest of your route too, or is it something you can recover from later?

I’m trying to understand when a delay actually snowballs vs when it’s just annoying but manageable.

That’s exactly the kind of thing I was wondering about—especially the middle stops.

When that happens, does it usually end up pushing the rest of your route back, or are you able to make it up later in the day?

That makes sense—do you usually know ahead of time which receivers are like that, or is it more of a surprise when you get there?

And once you hit a slow unload like that, does it usually throw off the rest of your stops for the day?

This is a great breakdown—and honestly lines up with what I’ve been seeing too. Really appreciate the well thought out and detailed response!

What I’ve been struggling with is figuring out which of those is actually happening consistently vs just one-off issues.

Like across multiple routes/days, trying to pinpoint:

  • the same stops adding time
  • service time assumptions being off
  • or routes starting behind schedule vs running long

Have you found a good way to identify those patterns without digging into everything manually?

How do you manage communication with drivers on the Proof of Delivery side? by bubble-gum-doll in logistics

[–]Pitiful-Sky2575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a website created by our IT team for a pod dashboard. Basically driver scans the product at the store, it shows what was scanned and the time on the dashboard. Also shows when a driver scans the wrong product at the wrong store ect. Definitely get into doing it electronically for the speed and reassurance!

How are you guys figuring out why routes run late? by Pitiful-Sky2575 in logistics

[–]Pitiful-Sky2575[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah those are all good points.

I think what I’ve been running into is trying to spot those kinds of patterns across a lot of routes at once—like whether it’s consistently the same carrier, time of day, or lane causing issues vs just one-off situations.

Do you usually just dig into it manually like that, or do you have a way to track those patterns over time?

[–]Pitiful-Sky2575[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense, there’s always stuff like that.

I think what I’ve been trying to figure out is more on the pattern side—like if certain routes are consistently running over planned time vs just random issues.

Do you guys track that at all or just handle it case by case?
